Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s financial issues appear to be continuing with their players and staff reportedly facing delayed payments for the second time in three months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

BBC Radio Sheffield claims that payments that were due on Friday are yet to arrive<\/a>, a repeat of what already happened in March.<\/p>\n

On that occasion payments arrived a week later on April 7, with the Championship club acknowledging the issue in a statement.<\/p>\n

“Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> can confirm a temporary issue with the payment of player salaries for the month of March,” it read.<\/p>\n

“This has occurred as a result of significant sums of money owed to the chairman’s businesses which has in turn impacted on the club’s immediate cashflow.<\/p>\n

“The chairman is working hard to resolve this situation at the earliest possible opportunity and in the meantime thanks everyone for their patience and understanding.”<\/p>\n

Chairman Dejphon Chansiri has owned Wednesday for ten years and the Thai billionaire\u2019s company Thai Union Group is the world\u2019s largest producer of canned tuna.<\/p>\n

He faced fan protests against his ownership at the end of the 2024\/25 season where Wednesday finished 12th in the second tier while rivals Sheffield United<\/a> lost the play-off final.<\/p>\n

Should wages not be paid soon, the club could risk a transfer embargo, as per the BBC\u2019s report.<\/p>\n

Wednesday have been placed under registration embargoes during the past two seasons and were docked six points during the 2020\/21 season for breaching spending rules.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Owls have spent the majority of Chansiri\u2019s ownership in the Championship, but were relegated to League One in 2021 where they stayed for two seasons.<\/p>\n

One of the main reasons for optimism among supporters has been highly-rated manager Danny Rohl, but the German now looks set to depart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Southampton were interested in the 36-year-old before landing Will Still, while Rohl has been linked to numerous teams back home, including RB Leipzig<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chansiri too has been linked with a departure amid rumours of interest from American parties.<\/p>\n

In 2019 the club sold their Hillsborough stadium to their chairman for a reported \u00a360million to avoid breaching spending rules.<\/p>\n

Later, in October 2023, Chansiri asked fans to raise \u00a32m to pay an outstanding debt to HM Revenue and Customs.<\/p>\n

Yet despite those issues, Chansiri said he\u2019d received \u2018no substantial interest\u2019 in the club during his last update.<\/p>\n

That may come as a surprise to talkSPORT host Simon Jordan, who recently revealed he recommended the club<\/a> to Saudi sport chairman Turki Alalshikh.<\/p>\n

The former Crystal Palace owner recalled he said: \u201cIf I was buying a football club and I was really motivated and had your kind of dough, I would buy Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause it\u2019s got scale, it\u2019s a big football club. There\u2019s a reason why Hillsborough got used up to a point, for FA Cup semi-finals.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019ve been to that club, I\u2019ve watched it, I\u2019ve seen the fan base. I know the Saudis can look across the city at Sheffield United and think their mate who owns that football club hasn\u2019t had the greatest of times over there, but I think it\u2019s a powerhouse.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you got that right, as I said to him, they\u2019d put a statue of you in the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you buy a London football club, and they\u2019re thinking of a couple, I\u2019m not going to tell you who they are, you\u2019ve got a whole wrath of challenges.<\/p>\n
