NHS worker who left a pedestrian in a coma after nearly tripling the speed limit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Myron Wallace admitted he was &#8216;being an idiot&#8217; when he pelted down Icknield Port Road in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/edgbaston\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Edgbaston<\/a> in his Volkswagen Polo full of passengers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He was doing as fast as 87mph on the 30mph street shortly before pedestrian Michael Bird tried to cross the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/pimp-childrens-author-jailed-over-31375581\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Pimp and kids&#8217; author jailed over prostitution of young girls in city<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Wallace swerved and braked but was still over the limit when he struck the 29-year-old, who had been to a boxing event with family at nearby H Suite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Bird suffered catastrophic injuries including a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, multiple other broken bones and a dislocated elbow.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_H-SuiteJPG.jpg\" alt=\"H Suite in Edgbaston\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>H Suite in Edgbaston<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Despite that, and the fact Wallace had previous driving related convictions, he was spared jail at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-crown-court\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Birmingham Crown CourtLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham Crown Court<\/a> this week following a &#8216;surprising&#8217; decision by the Crown Prosecution Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">They accepted the 27-year-old&#8217;s plea to causing serious injury by careless driving which allowed Judge Simon Drew KC to suspend his sentence of ten months because it was below the two-year threshold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, he commented he was &#8216;very surprised&#8217; the CPS had not sought to convict him of the more serious offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, which has harsher sentencing guidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Judge Drew added: &#8220;You were showing off to your friends in the car and as a result when you were driving so fast &#8211; although nobody is able to say precisely how fast &#8211; when the victim started to cross the road you were going so quickly you simply couldn&#8217;t stop and hit him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The injuries he suffered were frankly, catastrophic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But he concluded jailing Wallace for what would be a relatively short period of four months in custody &#8211; applying the 40 per cent release rule &#8211; would have &#8216;significant ramifications&#8217; for him, including jeopardising his support worker job in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Wallace mowed down Mr Bird around 11.30pm on March 16 last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Prosecutor Sally Cairns said: &#8220;The defendant stopped briefly after the collision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Mr Bird&#8217;s brother confronted him and punched him to the face through an open window. The defendant drove off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Polo was found damaged at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/tesco\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesco<\/a> in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/dudley\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Dudley<\/a> two days later and Wallace ultimately attended a police station voluntarily.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1744504749_822_0_Myrson-Wallace.jpg\" alt=\"Myron Wallace\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Myron Wallace(Image: West Midands Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ms Cairns continued: &#8220;He took full responsibility.
