{"id":151438,"date":"2025-06-02T06:43:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T06:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/151438\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T06:43:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T06:43:11","slug":"manchester-uniteds-earliest-deals-of-the-transfer-window-every-summer-from-2013-to-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/151438\/","title":{"rendered":"Manchester United&#8217;s earliest deals of the transfer window, every summer from 2013 to 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Manchester United have made a statement of intent with a move for Matheus Cunha.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ineos are not wasting any time in summer 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/transfer-news\/matheus-cunha-to-manchester-united-confirmed-as-wolverhampton-wanderers-star-becomes-first-summer-signing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already confirming a deal<\/a> to sign Wolves forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/matheus-cunha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matheus Cunha<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cunha cost a transfer fee of \u00a362.5 million, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/records\/manchester-uniteds-20-most-expensive-transfer-deals-of-all-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">club\u2019s seventh most expensive transfer deal of all time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it is not the cost that has caught our attention, it is the speed, with Manchester United confirming the move as early as June 1.<\/p>\n<p>History in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/ruben-amorim-is-entering-man-united-into-new-era-in-2025-26-no-more-sir-alex-ferguson-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post-Sir Alex Ferguson era<\/a> has shown this is the earliest Manchester United have concluded a summer transfer deal, and the first deal agreed in June since 2019.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"918\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-180473637.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by John Peters\/Manchester United via Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-89560\" \/>Photo by John Peters\/Manchester United via Getty ImagesSummer 2013<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Marouane Fellaini: September 2, \u00a327.5 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The least said about this one the better. A disastrous transfer window in the crucial first window after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/three-ex-man-utd-players-all-said-same-thing-after-sir-alex-ferguson-announced-his-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sir Alex Ferguson retired<\/a>. David Moyes was set up for failure with Ed Woodward failing to make a single signing before a desperate move for Marouane Fellaini on deadline day.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2014<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Ander Herrera: June 26, \u00a329 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Having tried and failed to sign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/ander-herrera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ander Herrera<\/a> in 2013, Manchester United tied up a deal for Ander Herrera pretty promptly in 2014, signing him on June 26. This was followed up with a deal to sign Luke Shaw one day later.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2015<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Memphis Depay, June 12, \u00a331 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Manchester United moved quickly to sign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/memphis-depay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memphis Depay<\/a> from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, wrapping up a deal in early June. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/louis-van-gaal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louis van Gaal<\/a> managing Depay previously for the Netherlands, this move looked a no-brainer, but it did not work out very well.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2016<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Eric Bailly, June 8, \u00a330 million <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Jose Mourinho era got off to a great start with United making an early move to sign centre-back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/eric-bailly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Bailly<\/a>. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/zlatan-ibrahimovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zlatan Ibrahimovic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/paul-pogba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Pogba<\/a> later joining, this was a positive window.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2017<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Victor Lindelof, June 15, \u00a331 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another swift move, Manchester United doubled down on defence by signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/victor-lindelof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victor Lindelof<\/a>, who had a mixed spell during his eight years for the club, with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/victor-lindelof-bids-farewell-with-proud-man-utd-record-bruno-fernandes-and-harry-maguire-lead-tributes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contract soon set to expire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2210095767-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-264932\" \/>Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt \u2013 AMA\/Getty ImagesSummer 2018<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Diogo Dalot, June 6, \u00a319 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2018 window actually got off to a fantastic start, with the move for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/diogo-dalot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diogo Dalot<\/a> followed by signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/fred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fred<\/a>. Unfortunately United did not follow up, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/jose-mourinho\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jose Mourinho<\/a> enraged by the only further signing that summer being back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2019<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Dan James, June 12, \u00a315 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/dan-james\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan James<\/a> became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer\u2019s first summer signing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/aaron-wan-bissaka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aaron Wan-Bissaka<\/a> joined him in early July, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/harry-maguire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harry Maguire<\/a> deal dragging on until August.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2020<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Donny van de Beek, September 2, \u00a335 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An outlier due to Covid, the transfer window opened late due to the delayed ending to the 2019\/20 season. Even so, United were late movers, waiting until the October transfer deadline to do most of the club\u2019s business.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2021<\/p>\n<p>Free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/tom-heaton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Heaton<\/a> became Manchester United\u2019s first summer signing of 2021. A deal for Jadon Sancho was concluded a fortnight later. This window famously ended with Cristiano Ronaldo re-signing on deadline day.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2022<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Tyrell Malacia, July 5, \u00a313 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Erik ten Hag\u2019s first summer transfer window saw only one player signed in time for the club\u2019s pre-season tour, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/tyrell-malacia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tyrell Malacia<\/a>. A deal for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/christian-eriksen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian Eriksen<\/a> went through 10 days later.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2023<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Mason Mount, July 5, \u00a355 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Manchester United anchored the 2023 window around a deal for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/mason-mount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mason Mount<\/a>. The jury is still out on whether this was a wise move or not.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2024<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Joshua Zirkzee, July 14, \u00a336 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The European Championships delayed United\u2019s transfer business, after the club were unable to get any deals done before the tournament. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/tag\/joshua-zirkzee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joshua Zirkzee<\/a> joined on July 14, but missed pre-season.<\/p>\n<p>Summer 2025<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links\">\n<li><strong>Matheus Cunha, June 1, \u00a362.5 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A notably rare deal for Manchester United, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedinfocus.com\/news\/four-winners-and-two-losers-from-man-uniteds-confirmed-matheus-cunha-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matheus Cunha\u2019s signing<\/a> is the earliest in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
