{"id":152021,"date":"2025-06-02T11:55:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T11:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152021\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T11:55:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T11:55:18","slug":"coco-gauff-equals-remarkable-24-year-record-alongside-venus-williams-in-historic-french-open-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152021\/","title":{"rendered":"Coco Gauff equals remarkable 24-year record alongside Venus Williams in historic French Open win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It didn&#8217;t take long for Coco Gauff to secure her place in the French Open quarter-finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 inside 90 minutes on Monday and in the process has matched another long-standing record.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gauff is a strong favourite for this year's tournament\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"GETTY\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/us-coco-gauff-plays-backhand-999962498.jpg\" data-caption=\"Gauff is a strong favourite for this year's tournament\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/us-coco-gauff-plays-backhand-999962498.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Gauff is a strong favourite for this year&#8217;s tournamentCredit: GETTY<\/p>\n<p>Gauff would have breathed a sigh of relief when she served out the second set to secure her fourth-round win.<\/p>\n<p>After breezing past Alexandrova\u00a06-0 in the first set, her 20-year-old opponent fought back in the second, to give the American a little scare.<\/p>\n<p>Although, Gauff was always in charge, winning five of her nine break points while Alexandrova\u00a0could only convert one of nine.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff&#8217;s win has also seen her become the youngest player (21 yrs, 73 days) to reach 5+ quarter-finals in the women&#8217;s singles side at a Grand Slam event since <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/who\/venus-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venus Williams<\/a> did back in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, it was tough I played well the whole match but she stepped up in the second set,&#8221; she said in her post-match interview.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overall I thought played great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I move well on clay, I&#8217;m comfortable with sliding and moving on the surface, this is the most physical surface and I do well in that department&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The World No.2 will now face a compatriot next with Madison Keys or <a aria-label=\"former roommate and outsider Hailey Baptiste next.
