Photo: Mike Vitelli<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fadmagazine.com\/tag\/sprueth-magers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spr\u00fcth Magers <\/a>has announced international representation of Gala Porras-Kim, in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/fadmagazine.com\/tag\/commonwealth-and-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commonwealth and Council<\/a>, Los Angeles. The artist\u2019s first solo show with the gallery,\u00a0The categorical bind, will open at Spr\u00fcth Magers, London tomorrow June 3rd.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/FAD-Magazine-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-324023\"  data-\/><\/p>\n<p>The research-based practice of Porras-Kim considers the complex relationship between cultural artifacts and the conventions governing their collection, conservation, display and taxonomy. By revealing overlapping areas in institutional collections, where items are classified as either information, science or art, she questions the conceptual frameworks and individual choices that inform our reading and presentation of objects as works of art. The resulting work\u2014spanning drawing, sculpture and installation\u2014offers poetic, provocative and spiritual forms of engagement with the ideas and beliefs that shape our histories.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gala Porras-Kim<\/strong> (*1984, Bogot\u00e1) lives and works in Los Angeles and London. The Colombian-Korean-American artist received her Master of Fine Arts from CalArts, Valencia, CA (2009). She was a Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, Cambridge (2019), an Artist in Residence at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles (2020\u201322) and a Fellow at the Museo delle Civilt\u00e0, Rome in collaboration with MAO \u2013 Museo d\u2019Arte Orientale, Turin (2023\u201325).
