{"id":152253,"date":"2025-06-02T14:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T14:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152253\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T14:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T14:03:09","slug":"fire-which-caused-smoke-to-block-m5-believed-to-be-arson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152253\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire which caused smoke to block M5 believed to be arson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists had to drive through plumes of smoke<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_image1-9.jpg\" alt=\"Large smoke clouds from a fire in Avonmouth.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Large smoke clouds from a fire in Avonmouth.(Image: Corey)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A fire that had caused plumes of smoke to billow over the M5 near Bristol is believed to have been started deliberately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The fire, which was discovered to be on Kings Weston Lane, in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/avonmouth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Avonmouth<\/a>, resulted in thick, black smoke which caused a significant hazard for drivers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/fires\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fire<\/a> was reported at 3.39pm on Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It is understood that during the fire, National Highways placed slow signs along the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/m5-motorway\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">M5<\/a> as a result of the smoke causing difficult driving conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The smoke could be seen for miles around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/avon-fire-and-rescue\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Avon Fire and Rescue<\/a> said that the fire was a pile of rubbish burning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Crews from Avonmouth, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/southmead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Southmead<\/a>, Temple and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/kingswood\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Kingswood<\/a> were sent to the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Firefighters used water jets and hoses to extinguish the fire, whilst wearing breathing apparatus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">No one was injured in the blaze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: &#8220;On Friday, May 30, at 3.39pm, crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, Temple and Kingswood fire stations were called to reports of a rubbish fire on Kings Weston Lane, Avonmouth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The crews extinguished the fire using water jets and hoses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Firefighters wore breathing apparatus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Fortunately, no one was injured.
