A fire that had caused plumes of smoke to billow over the M5 near Bristol is believed to have been started deliberately.<\/p>\n
The fire, which was discovered to be on Kings Weston Lane, in Avonmouth<\/a>, resulted in thick, black smoke which caused a significant hazard for drivers.<\/p>\n The fire<\/a> was reported at 3.39pm on Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n It is understood that during the fire, National Highways placed slow signs along the M5<\/a> as a result of the smoke causing difficult driving conditions.<\/p>\n The smoke could be seen for miles around.<\/p>\n Avon Fire and Rescue<\/a> said that the fire was a pile of rubbish burning.<\/p>\n Crews from Avonmouth, Southmead<\/a>, Temple and Kingswood<\/a> were sent to the scene.<\/p>\n Firefighters used water jets and hoses to extinguish the fire, whilst wearing breathing apparatus.<\/p>\n No one was injured in the blaze.<\/p>\n The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: “On Friday, May 30, at 3.39pm, crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, Temple and Kingswood fire stations were called to reports of a rubbish fire on Kings Weston Lane, Avonmouth.<\/p>\n “The crews extinguished the fire using water jets and hoses.<\/p>\n “Firefighters wore breathing apparatus.<\/p>\n “Fortunately, no one was injured.
