{"id":152255,"date":"2025-06-02T14:04:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T14:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152255\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T14:04:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T14:04:13","slug":"south-bristol-street-considered-a-threat-as-campaign-for-safer-route-moves-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/152255\/","title":{"rendered":"South Bristol street considered a &#8216;threat&#8217; as campaign for safer route moves forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A grassroots petition has put Novers Hill under the spotlight<\/p>\n<p>14:26, 02 Jun 2025Updated 14:26, 02 Jun 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Screenshot-1431jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Novers Hill in Knowle\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Novers Hill in Knowle(Image: Google Maps Street View)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A passionate campaign to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety on Novers Hill in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/knowle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Knowle<\/a> West is set to take centre stage today (Monday, June 2).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The petition, titled &#8216;A Safe Footpath\/Cyclepath Along Novers Hill, Bristol&#8217;, urges <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a> to construct a dedicated footpath and cycle lane along the narrow and frequently trafficked route.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With 450 signatures\u2014315 of them from Bristol residents\u2014the proposal has exceeded the threshold required to prompt formal consideration under the council\u2019s petition scheme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Campaigners have argued that the lack of a designated footway puts vulnerable users at daily risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cNovers Hill currently lacks a designated footpath for pedestrians, making it hazardous for those walking in the area,\u201d the petition stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It described the road as \u201cnarrow, with limited visibility\u201d and heavily used by two-way traffic, posing a threat to \u201cchildren, elderly residents, cyclists, parents with pushchairs and those with mobility challenges\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The document further highlights the impact on accessibility and environmental goals. It said: \u201cA safe footpath\/cyclepath would promote walking\/cycling and reduce car dependency, contributing to Bristol\u2019s environmental goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The petition called for \u201ca feasibility study and funding allocation for this project in the next council budget\u201d and urges the council to \u201ctake immediate action\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Organised by Owen Lord, the campaign has gained momentum among residents who rely on non-car travel in the area.
