{"id":153139,"date":"2025-06-02T21:52:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/153139\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T21:52:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:52:12","slug":"june-could-be-biggest-ever-month-for-business-in-london-says-mayor-sadiq-khan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/153139\/","title":{"rendered":"June could be biggest ever month for business in London, says Mayor Sadiq Khan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London is gearing up for what\u2019s being described as its \u201cbiggest ever month\u201d for business and investment, with four major international events heading to the capital in June.<\/p>\n<p>SXSW London, the 2025 Concordia Europe Summit, London Tech Week and London Climate Action Week are all set to bring thousands of business leaders, entrepreneurs and creatives from around the world into the city\u2014part of a wider plan by the Mayor and London &amp; Partners to cement the capital\u2019s reputation as a global economic and innovation powerhouse.<\/p>\n<p>New figures released this week show that London &amp; Partners, the capital\u2019s growth agency, secured more than \u00a3677 million through trade and investment in the last financial year. That includes \u00a3484 million through programmes helping tech firms expand internationally, \u00a3134 million from foreign businesses launching in London, and nearly \u00a360 million from events being hosted in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/harrowonline.org\/tag\/London\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a> is the best city for business in the world \u2013 an economic and cultural powerhouse bristling with creativity, innovation and enterprise. We are the engine of the UK economy \u2013 the top destination in Europe for inward investment, and a top two global financial centre.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe political climate causing uncertainty for businesses in the US and our Government\u2019s success in forging new deals with our biggest trading partners now provides a huge opportunity for our pro-growth, pro-investment capital city. Many of the world\u2019s best business leaders, innovators and creatives [are] heading to London this June, and there has never been a better time to invest in the capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures, London\u2019s economy was worth \u00a3531 billion in 2023\u2014over 20 per cent of the UK\u2019s total economic output.<\/p>\n<p>This flurry of activity follows the launch of the London Growth Plan earlier this year. The plan aims to boost productivity and unlock an extra \u00a3107 billion for the economy by 2035, alongside \u00a327.5 billion in additional tax revenue to the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The events<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SXSW London (2\u20137 June) will mark the festival\u2019s first appearance in Europe, bringing together leaders across tech, media and the creative industries. Speakers include Sir Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) and Ben Lamm (Colossal Biosciences).<\/p>\n<p>The Concordia Europe Summit (8\u201310 June) will host political and <a href=\"https:\/\/harrowonline.org\/tag\/Business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">business<\/a> leaders for closed-door discussions on economic growth and entrepreneurship. Speakers include Cherie Blair, Francesca Carlesi (Revolut), and the former President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovi\u0107.<\/p>\n<p>London Tech Week (9\u201313 June) is expected to be Europe\u2019s largest event of its kind, with appearances from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and Melanie Dawes, CEO of Ofcom.<\/p>\n<p>London Climate Action Week (21\u201329 June) rounds off the month, focusing on solutions to climate change through collaboration between businesses, politicians, NGOs and local communities.<\/p>\n<p>Max Alexander, CEO of SXSW London, said: \u201cSXSW London is honoured to be part of \u2018Investment Month\u2019 and to contribute to London\u2019s continued success as a leading global destination for investment and innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Swift, CEO of Concordia, called London \u201ca very clear choice\u201d for hosting their summit, citing its role as a \u201chub for finance, innovation and diplomacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>London &amp; Partners\u2019 chief executive, Laura Citron OBE, said: \u201cLast year, we directly helped London companies to win nearly half a billion pounds of new international deals. And we landed over 100 international tech companies \u2013 many of which wouldn\u2019t have picked London without us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>International firms including Symbolica AI, a US-based artificial intelligence company, and local digital health businesses have already benefited from L&amp;P\u2019s trade missions and investment support. Symbolica AI, which now operates from Old Street, is actively recruiting AI and machine learning talent from London, Cambridge and Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, other initiatives by the Mayor, such as a \u00a3500,000 investment in a new Quantum Technology Cluster and \u00a321 million in support for town centres, are designed to help London remain competitive amid a fast-changing global economy.<\/p>\n<p>Howard Dawber, Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, said: \u201cNow is the time to invest in London.
