Eales is stepping down from his role at Newcastle due to health reasons but stayed on until owners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/pif\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PIF<\/a> appointed a successor. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, it seems the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/club\/owners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle United owners<\/a> are close to doing so. Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/yasir-al-rumayyan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yasir Al-Rumayyan<\/a> is seemingly ready to make a decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-1492708293-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by James Gill - Danehouse\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-121932\" \/>Photo by James Gill \u2013 Danehouse\/Getty ImagesNewcastle United set to appoint David Hopkinson  <\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-14772919\/Newcastle-hold-talks-former-Real-Madrid-chief-hunt-new-CEO-Darren-Eales-forced-step-health-grounds.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Daily Mail<\/a>, Newcastle have spoken to David Hopkinson about the CEO position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sources at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/club\/stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St James\u2019 Park<\/a> are said to now recognise the need for an imminent announcement, given the fact both the current chief executive and sporting director are set to leave. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Such uncertainty at a high level is hardly ideal during a summer transfer window in which Newcastle need to be active.  <\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, Hopkinson is now seen as the leading candidate for the role Eales will vacate following an interview with PIF.  <\/p>\n<p>Who is potential new Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson? <\/p>\n<p>The 54-year-old Canadian was the Chief Commercial Officer with the Toronto Maple Leafs between 1994 and 2018. <\/p>\n<p>He then joined Real Madrid as Global Head of Partnerships and worked there until October 2020, when he became the Chief Operating Officer of Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s positive to hear there may be some progress at boardroom level soon. Hopefully, that soon translates to actually signing players ahead of another huge season for the club.  <\/p>\n<p>The smoother things are behind the scenes, the more chance the club have of operating seamlessly in the transfer market.
