{"id":153311,"date":"2025-06-02T23:21:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T23:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/153311\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T23:21:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T23:21:12","slug":"tornado-storm-recovery-distribution-site-moves-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/153311\/","title":{"rendered":"Tornado storm recovery distribution site moves in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEXINGTON, Ky. \u2014\u00a0According to London mayor Randall Weddle, 800 homes were affected by the tornado that hit southeast Kentucky communities.<\/p>\n<p><b>What You Need To Know<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jackson County Public Schools staff are volunteering at the London-Corbin airport<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>At least 800 homes were affected and 19 people died after an EF4 tornado hit southeast Kentucky<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Volunteers are organizing and delivering donations to storm victims<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Distribution services have now transitioned to 1480 South Main Street in London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Schools across Kentucky have started summer break, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jackson.kyschools.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jackson County Public Schools<\/a>, but for staff\u2019s first day off, they are giving back to their neighbors in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Around 40 staff members joined leaders at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-corbinairport.com\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKq-_FleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFnSnA0SUV3dkdhMFRMU0txAR7lv6NISTx4DcKGct1uyCFtM7OVD73E4HIMFtTN71Gk_qjY3zecYyC8SCd53Q_aem_Y7yHps8nWmk240QVrfI-XQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London-Corbin Airport<\/a>. Kentucky state representative and McKee elementary school principal Timmy Truett is leading the charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Truett said despite being about an hour away, people in their city had families who were affected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was here a couple of weeks ago and I drove them around this morning just to kind of see the aftermath. I was amazed at how much cleanup had already taken place. It\u2019s now mostly done by volunteers,\u201d Truett said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the airport, that was destroyed by the EF4 tornado, was used for a donation drop-off and distribution site. Distribution services have now transitioned to 1480 South Main Street in London.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like a Donation store. So the people that it\u2019s affected by the area of the tornado, they could come here. We could get all the supplies that they need from house items, rakes, tents, sleeping bags,\u201d said Becky Hatfield, distribution site volunteer.<\/p>\n<p>Hatfield said they moved locations to help with overstock, and organization and to turn this place into a quick pickup and delivery service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolunteers and LPD will come and deliver to you.
