Edinburgh is in for a day of high winds<\/a> as the Council announces the closure of city centre locations for public safety.<\/p>\n

The weather is forecasted to be blustery throughout the day on Tuesday, June 3, with the Met Office predicting high winds well into the evening.<\/p>\n

The City of Edinburgh Council<\/a> announced that Princes Street Gardens would be closed due to the weather and urged locals to keep up to date with Met Office forecasts.<\/p>\n

Winds will reach as high as 48 mph at their peak at 2.00pm, according to the Met Office.<\/p>\n

The gusts will remain strong throughout the day, with winds reaching 42mph at 11.00am and staying at 40 mph or higher until 7.00pm this evening.<\/p>\n

The Met Office considers strong winds to reach 29 mph or higher. They predict the winds will quiet down later tonight by around 10.00pm when gusts will fall to 27 mph.<\/p>\n

Temperatures will be moderate throughout the day with a high of 15C, with the daytime temperature ranging from around 12C to 14C.<\/p>\n

The closure of the Gardens comes after the capital was rocked by high winds during the 2024 Hogmanay<\/a> festivities, which saw widespread closures and event cancellations.<\/p>\n

At the time, tourists were “devastated<\/a>” after spending thousands on trips to Edinburgh for the axed festivities.<\/p>\n
