{"id":154807,"date":"2025-06-03T12:42:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T12:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/154807\/"},"modified":"2025-06-03T12:42:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T12:42:16","slug":"iconic-city-centre-music-club-set-to-re-open-as-live-music-venue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/154807\/","title":{"rendered":"Iconic city centre music club set to re-open as live music venue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With an expected launch in the autumn of 2025, the announcement was flooded with messages of support<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_JS37280772.jpg\" alt=\"The Magnet, Hardman Street, Liverpool.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The Magnet, Hardman Street, Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A building once home to legendary Liverpool <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/new-music\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">music<\/a> <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/clubs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">club<\/a> The Magnet will <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/regeneration\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">re-open under new ownership.<\/a> QUARRY C.I.C, a community music venue, was set-up in 2010 in response to the closure of a number of grassroots venues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Since its inception, the venture has hosted gigs showcasing upcoming talent in Merseyside, along with other creative projects. Since 2020, QUARRY&#8217;s live music events have been held in a venue on Love Lane in Vauxhall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Earlier this year, QUARRY announced it would be leaving the Love Lane site \u201cas soon as possible&#8221;, citing <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/500-flats-could-built-tower-29010813\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">property developments in the area as the reason for moving.<\/a> The company announced this morning that its new home will be at 45 Hardman Street in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/liverpool-city-centre\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool city centre,<\/a> the former home of The Magnet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Originally <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/music-nightlife-news\/legendary-sink-club-re-opens-magnet-9257289\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">a street level bar named the Rumblin\u2019 Tum<\/a>, a restaurant on the site was recognisable from the outside for its geometric wood panelling at the window, with the basement of the site named the Sink Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the city\u2019s first Black music venues, entry was by way of a numbered sink plug on a short length of chain which proved membership. When the venue was called Sink Club, Freddie Mercury first played there with band Ibex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">From 60\u2019s Soul to 70\u2019s Disco, to nuances of Reggae and Ska in the 80\u2019s and Electro in the 90\u2019s, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/nostalgia\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">for generations<\/a> The Magnet was a melting pot for different musical genres. It also saw a number of acts playing on stage in the bar&#8217;s bustling basement over the years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Geoff-Davies.jpg\" alt=\"Geoff Davies of Probe Records, photocall with bands on the Probe Plus Label, pictured outside the Magnet pub and restaurant in Hardman Street, Liverpool, Friday 29th April 2005.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Geoff Davies of Probe Records, photocall with bands on the Probe Plus Label, pictured outside the Magnet pub and restaurant in Hardman Street, Liverpool, Friday 29th April 2005.(Image: Mirrorpix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In its time, the bar and club <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/intimate-basement-club-many-great-25434282\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">boasted a long list of accolades<\/a> including &#8216;Best Bar in Liverpool&#8217; according to The Guardian, as well as occupying the 29th spot in GQ Magazine&#8217;s Best Bars in the World list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, in 2018, it was announced that The Magnet would no longer host gigs, as the site was &#8220;changing ownership and usage,&#8221; according to Merseyside club promoters EVOL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It was then taken over by Hot Water Comedy Club, but the Liverpool business vacated the building when it moved to Blackstock Market in Vauxhall last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Now QUARRY have announced it will re-open the building as a music venue once again later this year. In an Instagram post with a picture of some staff members, it said: \u201cWell, the rumours are true\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe are so happy to announce that the next phase of QUARRY will take place in the city centre as we relocate to 45 Hardman Street &#8211; the former site of iconic Liverpool music venues The Magnet and The Sink Club before it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt has been a long road to get here, one filled with uncertainty, and we couldn\u2019t have got here without the support of the QUARRY community &#8211; thank you all so much for your continued and unwavering support!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_magnet5web.jpg\" alt=\"The Magnet on Hardman Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Magnet on Hardman Street, Liverpool<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe recognise that this iconic site is steeped in history.
