Cartier says hackers accessed limited customer details. – Reuters<\/p>\n
The company, whose watches, necklaces and bracelets have been worn by Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie<\/a> and Michelle Obama<\/a>, said \u201can unauthorised party gained temporary access to our system.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLimited client information,\u201d such as names, email addresses and countries, had been obtained, said Cartier in the email sent to customers on Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe affected information did not include any passwords, credit card details or other banking information,\u201d Cartier said, adding it had since contained the issue.<\/p>\n The company said it had further enhanced the protection of its systems and data, as well as informed the relevant authorities, and was also working with \u201cleading external cybersecurity experts.\u201d<\/p>\n Cartier did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n The attack is the latest case of a company being targeted by cybercriminals.<\/p>\n British retailer Marks & Spencer<\/a> said last month a \u201chighly sophisticated and targeted\u201d cyberattack in April will cost it about 300 million pounds ($405 million) in lost profits.<\/p>\n According to Le Monde newspaper, French luxury house Dior<\/a>, owned by LVMH<\/a>, also reported last month that hackers had stolen data from its customers but insisted no financial data was involved.<\/p>\n Fashion brand The North Face<\/a>, owned by VF Corporation<\/a>, has also emailed some customers, saying it discovered a \u201csmall-scale\u201d attack in April this year.<\/p>\n The company told customers the hackers used \u201ccredential stuffing,\u201d trying usernames and passwords stolen from another data breach in the hope customers have reused the credentials across multiple accounts, the BBC said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
