A Greater Manchester tip will be closed for a year from the end of this month so \u2018vital improvements\u2019 can be made.<\/p>\n
Bosses at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) have announced the Reliance Street household waste and recycling centre will close on June 29.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s for a programme of upgrades which could take up to a year, they added.<\/p>\n
Work includes creating more parking bays to improve traffic flow, making more space for containers so they can recycle more types of items, and installing a donation container for items too good to throw away.<\/p>\n
A new \u2018Renew shop\u2019 will also be added to the Newton<\/a> Heath tip, which will \u2018no longer need to close for short periods throughout the day when full containers are moved and changed\u2019 after the revamp.<\/p>\n \u201cThese improvement works at our Reliance Street site are essential and it\u2019s great that work will be getting underway soon,\u201d said Coun Tom Ross, the GMCA\u2019s lead on waste. \u201cAdding a donation container and a Renew Shop are a particular benefit to the residents that use Reliance Street, with the money raised going to many great causes.\u201d<\/p>\n The site is managed by firm Suez, and its regional manager Andrew Bewicke said residents will feel the benefit of the new facilities.<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cLocal residents will see a much more modern recycling centre when these improvement works are complete.
