Emergency services taped off Castlefield Bowl on Tuesday evening (June 3) after a body was found in the water.<\/p>\n

Police, paramedics and fire crews cordoned off the area beside Liverpool Road shortly after 5pm after receiving reports of a body in the canal.<\/p>\n

A nearby resident said a boater on a canal barge raised the alarm after seeing what she initially thought was a coat in the water before the body resurfaced.<\/p>\n

“It was one of the boaters who called the police,” they said. “She saw what she thought was a coat floating in the water. She came back later on and it had resurfaced from under the boats.<\/p>\n

“The emergency services descended on the area and quickly evacuated us all.<\/p>\n

“They handled it very well and quickly, and put a big cordon in place across the whole area from the hotel. It was a big operation.”<\/p>\n

Pictures from the scene showed multiple fire and water rescue units in attendance, along with officers from Greater Manchester Police.<\/p>\n

The force has confirmed enquiries are ongoing after a body was recovered from the water at around 5.10pm. No further details have been released.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 5.10pm today (3 June 2025), emergency services were called to reports of a body in the canal close to Liverpool Road, Manchester.<\/p>\n

“Officers attended and sadly, a body was subsequently recovered from the water. Enquiries are currently ongoing.”<\/p>\n
