{"id":155647,"date":"2025-06-03T20:06:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T20:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/155647\/"},"modified":"2025-06-03T20:06:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T20:06:11","slug":"driver-banned-following-death-of-bristol-pensioner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/155647\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver banned following death of Bristol pensioner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stuart Veck had previously admitted to causing death by dangerous driving<\/p>\n<p>20:05, 03 Jun 2025Updated 20:05, 03 Jun 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_pauladamsJPG.jpg\" alt=\"Paul Adams (right) with his wife Juliet\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Paul Adams (right) with his wife Juliet(Image: Avon and Somerset Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A Bristol man has received a driving ban over the death of a 74-year-old pedestrian last year, a court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Stuart Veck, 33, was driving a Peugeot 108 in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/clifton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Clifton<\/a> on Saturday, December 21, when his car collided with Paul Adams, who was crossing the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Emergency services were called to the collision off Whiteladies Road shortly after 11.35am, and Mr Adams was taken to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/southmead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Southmead<\/a> Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sadly, he died in hospital during the early hours of December 24.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the days after his death, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/beloved-man-who-died-clifton-9841065\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"his family paid tributeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">his family paid tribute<\/a> to Mr Adams, saying he would be &#8216;sorely missed&#8217; &#8211; particularly by his wife of 17 years, Juliet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">CCTV showed Veck\u2019s car was stationary before he turned right from Whiteladies Road into Alma Road and collided with Mr Adams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Veck stopped immediately after the collision, and during police interview stated he had not seen Mr Adams crossing the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Veck, of College Court in Fishponds, appeared at Bristol Magistrates\u2019 Court where he received a suspended 18-week prison sentence today (June 3).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing death by careless driving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He also received an 18-month driving disqualification, and was ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The judge said the sentencing reflected Veck\u2019s early guilty plea and remorse for what happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Dai Nicholas, officer in the case, said: &#8220;Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Adams.
