crucial summer window and Brentford forward Photo by Maciej Rogowski/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty ImagesManchester United eyeing midfield loan signing

Christian Eriksen is leaving United this summer and questions linger over Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford.

Manuel Ugarte didn’t convince everybody in his first United season, while Kobbie Mainoo’s role under Amorim is still unclear.

Ederson would have made sense for United, but with big money being spent on attackers, Amorim may take a different approach.

Sky Sports report that United want to sign a midfielder on loan this summer, rather than paying up for one permanently.

It’s not often that we see United strike loan deals, but that may be the approach in an attempt to bolster Amorim’s engine room.

Odion Ighalo, Wout Weghorst, Sergio Reguilon, Sofyan Amrabat and Marcel Sabitzer spring to mind, though none of those moves were made permanent.

United may look back to the loan market again this summer, though finding somebody with the quality to improve Amorim’s squad won’t be easy.

Manchester United loan signing options

United may need to offer loans with options or even obligations to buy in 2026.

One player who we could imagine signing such a deal is Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Luiz excelled for Aston Villa in the Premier League but has struggled to make an impact since joining Juve last summer.

Reports suggest United wanted to sign Luiz in January, but Juventus just wouldn’t let him leave.

Luiz would allegedly fancy joining United and a loan with an option to buy could tempt Juventus into a deal.

Luiz’s proven record in the Premier League is very appealing, just like Cunha and Mbeumo, and he fits the mould of a number eight who can contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Amadou Haidara has been on United’s radar in the past and Florian Plettenberg claims he will leave RB Leipzig this summer.

One issue is that Haidara’s contract expires in 2026, meaning RB Leipzig may be reluctant to loan him out before he becomes a free agent.

Loan signings tend to happen later in the window and United may need to hunt far and wide for a loan signing who can make a real impact under Amorim.

Manchester United have been given a boost with Bruno Fernandes turning down
