Sheffield Wednesday have been charged by the EFL for \u201cmultiple breaches\u201d relating to the club\u2019s payment obligations. In March, the Sky Bet Championship club failed to pay the players their salaries on time due to what were described as \u201ccashflow\u201d issues.<\/p>\n
It has since been reported there were also problems with payments for May \u2013 which are also said to have included non-playing club staff and other employees.<\/p>\n
The EFL described the situation as \u201cclearly concerning\u201d, with the governing body \u201cconsidering all the options available\u201d. On Tuesday, the EFL subsequently confirmed formal action had now been initiated.<\/p>\n
\u201cSheffield Wednesday Football<\/a> Club has been charged with multiple breaches of EFL Regulations relating to payment obligations,\u201d a statement from the EFL read.<\/p>\n \u201cThe owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has also been charged with causing the club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund the cash requirements of the club.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Sheffield Wednesday players sent letter as wages unpaid AGAIN with club facing transfer embargo<\/a>READ MORE: When Premier League fixtures are announced for 2025\/26 season with key dates confirmed<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAll charges relate to both the Ultimate Beneficial Owner and the club failing to meet their obligations to pay players\u2019 wages on time and in full in March and May 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cThe club and Mr Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges.\u201d Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship \u2013 and manager Danny Rohl has been linked with a move away during the summer.<\/p>\n The club later issued a statement in which Chansiri offered his \u201csincere apologies\u201d to everyone who had been impacted, with a resolution sought \u201cat the earliest possible opportunity\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cSheffield Wednesday acknowledge the statement issued by the EFL on Tuesday afternoon,\u201d a statement on the Owls\u2019 official website read.<\/p>\n \u201cThe club continue to seek a resolution regarding outstanding salaries due for the month of May at the earliest possible opportunity.<\/p>\n \u201cMr Chansiri sincerely apologises to all players, coaches and staff affected and everyone connected with the club.
