A statement on the Premier League\u2019s official website has made a big claim about Tottenham Hotspur and the so-called \u201cBig Six\u201d after the disastrous domestic campaign endured by the Lilywhites and Manchester United.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While the 2024-25 season will always be remembered by Tottenham<\/a> fans as the year in which the club broke the longest trophy drought in their history, the team\u2019s abject showing in the league cannot be completely glossed over.<\/p>\n

Tottenham have had their worst-ever season in Premier League history<\/a>, ending the campaign with 22 defeats and finishing just one spot off the relegation zone.<\/p>\n

This abject showing is exactly why reports indicate that Ange Postecoglou is likely to be sacked by Spurs<\/a> despite winning the Europa League trophy.<\/p>\n

The Premier League have completed a round-up of the takeaways from the 2025-25 season on their official website<\/a>, and they suggest that the \u201cBig Six\u201d might be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n

They point out that unlike previous seasons where the six biggest clubs in the country always tended to finish in the top six, that has not been the case for the past few years in a row.<\/p>\n

Their statement reads: \u201cIn five of the eight Premier League seasons between 2014 and 2022, the \u201cBig Six\u201d clubs filled every top-six spot in the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the three years since 2022, not once have those six clubs occupied all of the positions from one to six. In fact, the same number of top-six places have gone to clubs not in the \u201cBig Six\u201d in the last three years as in the previous eight years combined (five).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe historically bad campaigns for both Man Utd and Spurs signal the end of the \u201cBig Six\u201d era, as does Chelsea\u2019s ongoing battle to retain their status alongside the disruptors Newcastle and Aston Villa.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tottenham\u2019s domestic showing this season was unacceptable<\/p>\n

It is fascinating to see a lot of Spurs fans on social media riling against the idea of the club sacking Postecoglou, which was perhaps to be expected, given how long the fan base has been starved of silverware.<\/p>\n

However, one cannot overlook how unprecedentedly poor Tottenham\u2019s league campaign was, with 22 defeats being an acceptable number for a club of the Lilywhites\u2019 resources, irrespective of any extenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n

Some supporters seem to forget that the last Spurs manager to win a trophy, Juande Ramos, took two points from his first eight games of the 2008-09 season following his trophy success.<\/p>\n

While winning cup competitions certainly cannot be scoffed at, a club of Tottenham\u2019s stature need to be in the top six, and Levy now has to decide if Ange Postecoglo<\/a>u is the right man to get the club back where it belongs.<\/p>\n
