Everton have been making contact with a number of clubs both domestically and overseas with the summer transfer window now officially open.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Toffees are trying to sign Manchester City defender John Stones<\/a> and we understand the 31-year-old is keen on a return to Merseyside.<\/p>\n

David Moyes is also eyeing Sunderland\u2019s Trai Hume<\/a>, with the squad in need of another full-back following Ashley Young\u2019s exit.<\/p>\n

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison continues to be linked with a return to Goodison Park<\/a>, however, that deal looks off the table at present.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s just surfaced that Spurs could hijack a deal to sign one of Everton\u2019s<\/a> rumoured targets.<\/p>\n

Everton have been tracking Lille and England midfielder Angel Gomes<\/a> for some time, dating back to the winter transfer window.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old is considered \u2018one of the best\u2019 midfielders in Europe, according to French football expert Julien Laurens (per BBC Sport<\/a>).<\/p>\n

It was recently reported that Moyes was preparing a contract offer to Gomes<\/a> after he confirmed he would be leaving Lille at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

The former Manchester United wonderkid is set to become a free agent, and it appeared as though the Toffees were well placed to land his signature. <\/p>\n

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham have now \u2018grown in confidence\u2019 that they can get a deal done to sign Angel Gomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGomes is another possibility, and Tottenham have made an offer,\u201d Jacobs revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019ve heard in the last kind of 48 hours is that Tottenham have grown in confidence that their offer might be accepted.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Everton could turn their focus to Mohamed Diomande<\/p>\n

With Spurs now advancing their interest in Gomes and submitting a contract offer, it looks like Everton are set to miss out and will have to look elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Moyes could turn his attention to Rangers\u2019 Mohamed Diomande<\/a>, who has enjoyed a productive season in Scotland.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old has registered 15 goal contributions from midfield and can operate in a number of different positions.<\/p>\n

The Gers are desperate to retain Diomande\u2019s signature and would command a sizable fee if they were to sanction his sale, having paid around \u00a34m last summer.<\/p>\n
