Bosses at Harborne Lane Nursing Home in Selly Oak, Birmingham<\/a> said work has already been carried out to address issues highlighted following a Care Quality Commission (CQC)<\/a> inspection which took place in January.<\/p>\n

Last month, the CQC presented its findings and awarded it\u2019s second lowest rating of \u2018requires improvement\u2019 and said they\u2019d found five five \u2018breaches of regulation relating to person-centred care, safe care and treatment<\/a>, consent, safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment and good governance\u2019.<\/p>\n

But Gary Grant, director of Harborne Lane Nursing Home, said while they were disappointed they were committed to making the necessary improvements.<\/p>\n

And, he added, progress has been made as an independent company hired to carry out a \u2018mock CQC\u2019 inspection found the home to be at the \u2018good\u2019 rating.<\/p>\n

Harborne Lane caters for people living with dementia, physical disabilities and sensory impairment with room for up to 68 people.<\/p>\n

Mr Grant said: \u201cWe are naturally disappointed with the rating but are fully committed to making all necessary improvements and exceeding expectations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe take immense pride in our home, our dedicated staff and our residents. It\u2019s important to note that the CQC inspection took place in January and the report was published in May, a considerable four months later.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that time, we have already implemented significant improvements. It is important to note that our new manager had only been in post for just two months at the time of our inspection.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll concerns identified during the inspection were addressed promptly, either immediately or within a few days. We developed and completed a comprehensive action plan, which has been submitted to the CQC.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, to ensure our ongoing progress we commissioned an independent company to conduct a full mock CQC inspection on May 20 and 21.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received their report this week and I am pleased to share that we were rated as \u201cgood\u201d across all five standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added they were also pleased with a lot of positive feedback received from the CQC inspectors across the standards of safe, effective, caring, responsive and leadership.<\/p>\n

This included staffing levels being appropriate with staff being well-inducted, trained and having ongoing supervision.<\/p>\n

Inspectors also said staff were relaxed and engaged with residents while infection control was well managed.<\/p>\n

The report also said relatives felt assured that healthcare needs were promptly addressed with staff being knowledgeable about those needs.<\/p>\n

Inspectors also noted positive feedback from residents and their families who described staff as caring and kind.<\/p>\n
