Today Mr Wagner, reacting to the announcement, said it provided the &#8216;springboard&#8217; he had been looking for.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The chancellor&#8217;s commitment to upgrade transport links in east Birmingham is a huge step forward for the Sports Quarter,&#8221; said Mr Wagner, who heads up the Knighthead investment in Birmingham City and other sports operations in the city.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It gives us the springboard we need to advance this transformative project at pace, bringing huge benefits to the people of east Birmingham and the wider region in the shape of jobs and opportunities, as well as economic growth that will be felt across the whole of the UK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/why-tram-line-east-birmingham-043000419.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Why tram line to East Birmingham, Blues, Airport and NEC has to happen;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why tram line to East Birmingham, Blues, Airport and NEC has to happen<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mr Parker said: &#8220;This funding means we can now deliver a new Metro line to the Sports Quarter, connecting it to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-centre\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham city centre;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham city centre<\/a> and unlocking one of the most significant private investments our region has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But this is just the beginning. She said today: &#8220;Last year I promised to be Birmingham&#8217;s voice at the heart of Government. Today&#8217;s announcement &#8211; including \u00a3400m of funding for a new Metro line, is a down payment on the future of our city and a promise delivered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Metro extension to east Birmingham unlocks game-changing private investment into the world class Sports Quarter development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jobs, homes, transport &#8211; investment concentrated in areas that need it most &#8211; secured after years of campaigning for my constituency. That&#8217;s the difference a Labour government makes for our city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There was positivity from business leaders too.
