A man has been arrested after allegedly intruding into the grounds of\u00a0Windsor Castle<\/a>, close to the home of the Prince and Princess of Wales<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The suspect in his 30s is reported to have accessed the estate in Berkshire around lunchtime on Sunday, it has today emerged.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both the Metropolitan Police<\/a>\u00a0and Thames Valley Police say investigations have been launched.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The apparent security scare comes near to the Windsor home shared by Prince William<\/a>\u00a0and Kate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Officers have said a man was detained on suspicion of trespass on a protected site and possession of Class A drugs, before being bailed.<\/p>\n

The Sun<\/a> quoted a source as saying: ‘The intruder is believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the break-in.<\/p>\n

The Prince and Princess of Wales, pictured here at Westminster Abbey in central London in March this year, have their Adelaide Cottage home on the Windsor estate in Berkshire’<\/p>\n

‘He broke into the castle near Town Gate and was quickly detained by police.<\/p>\n

‘It was a crazy thing to do and caused quite a stir but at this stage it appears there was no intent to cause any serious harm.’<\/p>\n

William and Kate live in Adelaide Cottage as part of the Windsor estate along with their children George, Charlotte and Louis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson today said: ‘A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of trespass on a protected site and possession of Class A drugs after entering restricted grounds at Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

‘Officers in the grounds spotted the man just after 13.00hrs on Sunday 1 June and quickly arrested him.<\/p>\n

‘He was then passed into the custody of Thames Valley Police.’<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police, said: ‘At just after 1pm on Sunday 1 June a man entered restricted grounds at Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

‘He was quickly challenged by Met police officers and arrested. He did not enter the inner grounds of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

‘He was arrested on suspicion of trespass on a secure site and possession of class A drugs. He has been bailed and an investigation is ongoing by Thames Valley Police.’<\/p>\n
