Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy, speaking at an Andor Season 2 event in London, indicated that Disney is working on a Star Wars horror project.<\/p>\n

Gilroy was asked a follow-up to a quote he gave back in March to SFX Magazine saying he\u2019d like to see \u201ca three-camera sitcom in \u2018Star Wars\u2019 or a horror movie.\u201d In London, on Thursday, Business Insider<\/a> asked if he would do a Star Wars horror project. His response:<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re doing that. I think they\u2019re doing that. I think that\u2019s in the works, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

There was no indication that Gilroy would be working on this project, unfortunately. He has spent the last 6 years working on Andor and several years prior to that with his involvement on Rogue One, and has expressed a desire to move on to other ideas. Speaking on the future of the franchise post-Andor, Gilroy said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe right creator, and the right moment, and the right vibe \u2026 you can do anything. So, my hope is that the show connects, and then we can pass along the favor that we were given from Mandalorian, and we can pass along a good healthy backwind to someone else who wants to do something else cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lucasfilm has announced many projects that have not come to fruition, let alone the ones they haven\u2019t announced so this is something that seems very preliminary at this time, or possibly a misunderstanding entirely.<\/p>\n

The only Star Wars film with a scheduled release date is The Mandalorian and Grogu, premiering May 22, 2026. This movie was filmed in 2024 and is currently in post-production. There has been escalating talk regarding a potential Shawn Levy film, staring Ryan Gosling. The writer of that film, Levy collaborator Jonathon Tropper was recently quoted by Screen Rant<\/a> saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really not going to be able to talk about this. So yeah, you know, we\u2019re still working on it. Yeah, it\u2019s our fourth project together. It\u2019s the first one since The Adam Project.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am [excited] too. I hope it\u2019s on the way sooner than you think.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The next Star Wars film was initially thought to be a Rey focused \u201cNew Jedi Order\u201d film where she would train a new generation of Jedi. However, that project has gone through multiple writers and as of now, a script has yet to be completed. George Nolfi was recently announced to replace Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.<\/p>\n

Kathleen Kennedy was speaking<\/a> recently about her pending exit as president of Lucasfilm and indicated that Shawn\u2019s movie would be coming after The Mandalorian and Grogu:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll probably make an announcement months or a year out, and I have every intention of sticking around to help that person be successful. I\u2019m already producing the Mandalorian movie, and Shawn Levy\u2019s is after that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Other films announced officially include a Dawn of the Jedi movie by James Mangold said to be a \u201cbiblical story about the first Jedi. Then there is a MandoVerse movie by Dave Filoni that purportedly would bring together the characters from the series The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. However, there have been minimal updates on either film. Kennedy has also hinted at a Simon Kinberg trilogy and still mentions a Taika Waititi film.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

With no dedicated Lucasfilm Showcase panel at next week\u2019s Star Wars Celebration, upcoming film or TV show announcements are possible, but not expected.<\/p>\n

Gilroy\u2019s Andor\u00a0Season 2, which will be featured prominently at the convention, starts streaming April 22.<\/p>\n
