{"id":15840,"date":"2025-04-13T06:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T06:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/15840\/"},"modified":"2025-04-13T06:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T06:54:11","slug":"greg-meehan-named-usa-swimming-national-team-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/15840\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg Meehan Named USA Swimming National Team Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Greg Meehan Named USA Swimming National Team Managing Director; Leaves Rich Legacy at Stanford<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States, today announced the appointment of <strong>Greg Meehan<\/strong> as their new National Team\u00a0 Managing Director.<\/p>\n<p>Meehan has served in various international coaching roles for USA Swimming since 2007, most notably as the 2020 Olympic Women\u2019s Head Coach and assistant coach at the 2016 and 2024 Games. He also led USA Swimming as the Women\u2019s Head Coach at the 2017 and 2019 World Aquatics Championships, along with assistant roles at the 2007 World University Games, 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, and 2015 and 2022 World Aquatics Championships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Meehan coached at Stanford University as the Paul A. Violich <a href=\"https:\/\/gostanford.com\/staff\/greg-meehan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Director of Women\u2019s Swimming<\/a>. At Stanford, Meehan led the women\u2019s team to seven Pac-12 titles and three consecutive national titles from 2017-2019 and was named NCAA Swimming Coach of the Year three times. He previously coached collegiately in various capacities at William &amp; Mary, Princeton, UCLA, University of the Pacific, and University of California.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreg\u2019s ability to connect with and elevate his athletes is remarkable,\u201d said <strong>Natalie Coughlin,<\/strong> three-time Olympian, 12-time Olympic medalist, and USA Swimming Board Chair-Elect. \u201cHe not only understands the preparation and mindset required to perform at the highest level, but he also brings a clear vision for athlete development, performance strategy, and team culture. Bick<\/p>\n<p>As National Team Managing Director, Meehan will oversee all aspects of USA Swimming\u2019s National Team program, including high performance, athlete and coach services and development, funding, and operations. He will lead the National Team at international competitions, focusing on Operation Gold competitions, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, and Pan Pacific Championships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his storied coaching career, Meehan has helped develop some of USA Swimming\u2019s most successful athletes such as <strong>Maya DiRado Andrews,<\/strong> <strong>Torri Huske, Katie Ledecky,<\/strong> and <strong>Simone Manuel.<\/strong> During his time at Stanford, he led the women\u2019s team to 19 relay and 33 individual national titles. Most recently, Huske flourished under Meehan\u2019s guidance, winning three gold and two silver medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games \u2013 adding to the silver she earned at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. At last month\u2019s 2025 NCAA Swimming Championships, Huske became an NCAA champion for the first time when she won the title in the women\u2019s 200-yard individual medley. Meehan\u2019s track record of athlete development and international success was critical to his selection by USA Swimming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome Greg into this critical leadership role,\u201d said <strong>Chris Brearton,<\/strong> Chair of the USA Swimming Board of Directors. \u201cHis extensive coaching experience and abundance of technical knowledge position him perfectly to lead the USA Swimming National Team. He will play a vital role in shaping our High Performance Plan and fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and accountability. I am honored to help lead this next chapter and inspire the next generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meehan got his start coaching summer league and age group swimmers, building the foundation for his collegiate and professional coaching career. He grew up swimming for <strong>Charlie Kennedy<\/strong> at Suburban Swim Club in Philadelphia and remains an avid Philly sports fan.
