Emile Heskey reckons Liverpool need to concentrate on adding a prolific centre-forward once they have wrapped up a deal for Florian Wirtz.<\/p>\n
The Reds have already seen two bids for Germany playmaker Wirtz turned down by Bayer Leverksen, who are demanding a record \u00a3125m for the Bundesliga\u2019s best player.<\/p>\n
And once Liverpool<\/a> \u2019s pursuit of the Germany playmaker concludes, former striker Heskey would like to see the club focus on bringing in a striker who can score regularly – especially with Darwin Nunez appearing likely to be heading for the exit following two disappointing campaigns.<\/p>\n Liverpool are also keen on the Bournemouth<\/a> full back Milos Kerkez having already confirmed a deal for Wirtz\u2019s Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong after Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> sealed his move to Real Madrid<\/a> ahead of next week\u2019s Club World Cup.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd in Mbeumo talks, Wirtz to Liverpool latest, Arsenal offer Partey update<\/a>READ MORE: Liverpool make two decisions on Luis Diaz as transfer stance revealed<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d like to see Liverpool bring in a centre forward too. They\u2019ve been missing that since Roberto Firmino,\u201d Heskey said.<\/p>\n \u201cYou only realise his impact on the team when you look at his goals and those of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah<\/a> either side of him. He\u2019d score about 15 goals a season with the other two scoring 20 plus, so that\u2019s around 60 goals from your front three every season.<\/p>\n \u201cNowadays, it\u2019s only Salah putting up those numbers. They\u2019ve got to bolster that No9 position and bring in a proper goalscorer. We\u2019ve seen what Erling Haaland<\/a> has done at Manchester City<\/a>. Alexander Isak has shown the importance of a goalscoring No9 for Newcastle<\/a> this season, too.\u201d<\/p>\n Heskey, who was speaking to Poker Scout<\/a>, also said that he believes Wirtz is a similar sort of player to former Reds midfielder Philippe Coutinho.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cThe potential signing of Florian Wirtz would be great for Liverpool. He\u2019s a fantastic player and having watched a few clips of him, he reminds me of Philippe Coutinho.
