In Utah County, Utah, entrepreneurship is deeply ingrained in the culture. \u201cWe are an entrepreneurial mecca,\u201d said Corbin Church, founder of a Utah County startup incubator called iHUB. \u201cThere are over 200 businesses working on this floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of our ongoing series \u201cThe Age of Work\u201d about how demographic shifts \u2014 specifically the aging U.S. labor force \u2014 are shaking up the global economy, \u201cMarketplace\u201d host Kai Ryssdal and ADP chief economist Nela Richardson visited Utah County, which is one of the youngest in America<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an economy that has found its entrepreneurial backbone,\u201d said Richardson. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, new business applications<\/a> in Utah per capita are among the highest in the nation<\/a>. In Utah County, there were about 26.7 applications<\/a> for new businesses per 1,000 people in 2023, the most recent data available.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At iHUB, Richardson and Ryssdal spoke with Church about how Utah\u2019s demographics \u2014 the relative youth of the population and culture of the LDS church \u2014 contribute to that culture. Then, in the same building, they visited a makers market where many home-based businesses sell jewelry and other wares.<\/p>\n
