Rory McIlroy hasn\u2019t been so keen to talk recently, but when an adorable young fan in a green jacket approached him, he had no choice but to.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman was out on course at the RBC Canadian Open<\/a> when he spotted the youngster in a unique look.<\/p>\n

Crouching down to chat to the child in a Masters-style green jacket, McIlroy told him: \u201cIt took me a little longer to get one of those.\u201d<\/p>\n

McIlroy, a father himself, then gave the smiling fan a high five and posed for a picture with him.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old was of course referring to his very own green jacket, reserved for winners of The Masters<\/a> – golf\u2019s most prestigious major.<\/p>\n

McIlroy won the tournament for the first time at Augusta on April 13, heading off Justin Rose in a play-off after victory appeared to have escaped him.<\/p>\n

Instead, he got the deal done and broke down with emotion as an agonising wait for his very own green jacket had come to an end.<\/p>\n

It had been 11 years since McIlroy won a major, so to break that drought at the only one of the four he hadn\u2019t captured was the perfect story.<\/p>\n

In fact – only six golfers have won the Grand Slam of all four majors, making McIlroy\u2019s overdue success even more epic.<\/p>\n

However, at his next major, the PGA Championship in May, he could only finish tied-47th and conducted a surprise media blackout during his time on course.<\/p>\n

It now turns out it was over a leaked story about his non-conforming driver, with it later emerging that winner Scottie Scheffler<\/a> suffered the same fate.<\/p>\n

Explaining his media snub, McIlroy said in Canada: “I was a little p***** off because I knew that Scottie’s [Scheffler] driver had failed on Monday, but my name was the one that was leaked.<\/p>\n

McIlroy explained why he opted for silence at the PGA Championship<\/p>\n

“It was supposed to stay confidential. Two members of the media were the ones that leaked it.<\/p>\n

“Again, I didn’t want to get up there and say something that I regretted, either. I’m trying to protect Scottie – I don’t want to mention his name. I’m trying to protect TaylorMade. I’m trying to protect the USGA, PGA of America, myself.<\/p>\n

“I just didn’t want to get up there and say something that I regretted at the time. With Scottie’s stuff, that’s not my information to share.<\/p>\n

“I knew that that had happened, but that’s not on me to share that, and I felt that process is supposed to be kept confidential, and it wasn’t for whatever reason. That’s why I was pretty annoyed at that.”<\/p>\n

The Canadian Open will be taking place at TPC Toronto in Osprey Valley from June 5 to June 8 – live on talkSPORT 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n
