Together, they urged the EU to increase support for Ukraine and deepen collaboration with the Russian opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between Ukraine and the Russian opposition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ponarseurasia.org\/oppositionists-or-opportunists-ukraines-distrust-toward-the-russian-opposition-in-exile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has often been strained<\/a> over the years. Ukraine has previously accused some opposition figures, including members of Navalny\u2019s circle, of echoing Putin\u2019s imperialist views \u2014 particularly by hesitating to fully condemn Russia\u2019s annexation of Crimea in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Since Moscow\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, some members of the Russian opposition have adopted a clearer and stronger position in support of Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPutin puts in prison, tortures, kills political opponents \u2026 inflates neighboring countries, commits horrible crimes and walks free,\u201d Navalnaya told members of the European Parliament. \u201cWhy have we failed to put a stop to his activities? Why have you failed? I think it\u2019s because we have not joined our efforts yet,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that the Russian president\u2019s  aggression was never going to stop at Ukraine. \u201cIf he hadn\u2019t invaded Ukraine, it would have been another neighboring country. As long as a dictator remains in power, it will never stop,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Navalnaya was sentenced in absentia by a Russian court in July 2024 for alleged involvement in an \u201cextremist\u201d organization \u2014 charges tied to her work with her late husband\u2019s Anti-Corruption Foundation, which Russian authorities outlawed in 2021.
