In January, 76 percent of iPhones introduced in the last four years had \u200ciOS 18\u200c installed, while 68 percent of all iPhones were running the update.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to last year, \u200ciOS 18\u200c is more popular than iOS 17. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2024\/06\/11\/apple-shares-final-ios-17-adoption-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In June 2024<\/a>, 86 percent of all iPhones from the last four years had iOS 17, while 77 percent of all iPhones were running it.<\/p>\n<p>As for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/roundup\/ipad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iPad<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/roundup\/ipados-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iPadOS 18<\/a> is currently installed on 81 percent of iPads introduced in the last four years, while 71 percent of total devices run \u200ciPadOS 18\u200c. \u200ciPadOS 18\u200c has also been adopted more rapidly than iPadOS 17 in June 2024. During that time period, iPadOS 17 was installed on 77 percent of all iPads released in the last four years and 68 percent of all iPads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/guide\/apple-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple Intelligence<\/a> features in \u200ciOS 18\u200c like Writing Tools, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/guide\/genmoji\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genmoji<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/guide\/image-playground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Image Playground<\/a>, and notification summaries may have spurred the uptick in adoption between iOS 17 and \u200ciOS 18\u200c.<\/p>\n<p>Apple views software updates as an integral part of the \u200ciPhone\u200c usage experience. Apple is able to deliver new functionality to older iPhones on a regular basis, plus the frequent updates that Apple rolls out address bugs and ensure the best protection from security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Apple says that providing \u200ciPhone\u200c users with new features over multiple years is something that is unique to the \u200ciPhone\u200c because of the deep integration between hardware and software. Apple views software updates as a way to provide value to customers over a long period of time, enabling them to hold onto their devices for years while still getting new experiences.<\/p>\n<p>The newest version of iOS is set to debut next week at the Worldwide Developers Conference.
