{"id":161394,"date":"2025-06-05T22:51:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T22:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/161394\/"},"modified":"2025-06-05T22:51:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T22:51:10","slug":"swindon-area-man-becomes-counsellor-after-therapy-sessions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/161394\/","title":{"rendered":"Swindon area man becomes counsellor after therapy sessions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  During a tough time in Edward Hopgood\u2019s life, he sought counselling and soon noticed a significant difference in how he could handle the stresses and struggles that had been troubling him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Now, after 25 years in technology sales, he has switched career and wants to offer similar support to for other men by creating a safe and confidential space where they can feel comfortable discussing their mental health, relationships, career challenges, and anything else they want to get off their chest.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 47-year-old opened a new service in Highworth to provide therapy and mental health support for men.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ed said: \u201cI think awareness of mental health is growing, generally and has become more prevalent in the younger generation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMore men are having therapy, which is a great move in the right direction.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhen parts of my life were not working brilliantly and everything felt overwhelming, I tried therapy, which helped me gain clarity and perspective and control of my life.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cA support network of friends and family is good, but sometimes they want to solve everything for you and, although that comes from a good place,\u00a0you just want someone to acknowledge the impact something\u2019s having on you so you can find a solution on your own.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>Recommended reading<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe counsellor wouldn\u2019t offer advice or solutions, they helped me understand my feelings, and I could say what I truly felt without fear or judgement.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cAfter seeing how much better and more grounded I felt, I was fascinated by how it worked, so I trained as a counsellor and thought there was a gap for men who wanted to chat to a trained male counsellor.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThere is still a bit of a stigma for men around discussing mental health, more than physical health, but it\u2019s just as important.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI want there to be more communication and encouragement for men to access a service if they need it, knowing they will be respected and valued.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029VajdodB84Om7xQIYmC1x\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  At first, SubRosa \u2013 which is Latin for \u2018confidential\u2019 &#8211;
