Well, all good things come to an end as they say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Friday afternoon (April 11) temperatures are set to reach 20C, with similar conditions on Saturday. But from Sunday it\u2019s likely to cool down to the mid teens, with clouds moving in and the chance of rain on the cards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you\u2019re looking for the perfect place for a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/tourism\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">stroll<\/a> while the good weather lasts, then head to Walkden Gardens, located off Marsland Road in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/sale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_VCP_MEN_17072022_gardens_010JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Walkden Gardens\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Walkden Gardens(Image: Vincent Cole &#8211; Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Not as well known as Fletcher Moss or <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/heaton-park\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Heaton Park<\/a>, Walkden Gardens does pack a punch when it comes to horticultural design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s made up of different \u2018rooms\u2019 which celebrate different features, so you can explore \u2018gardens within gardens\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Walkden Gardens is owned by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/trafford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Trafford<\/a> Council, who maintain the park alongside the Friends Group, made up of volunteers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s named after Harry Walkden, who owned a plant nursery at the current site. The gardens themselves were inspired by the well-known 20th century garden at Hidcote Manor in Gloucester.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_VCP_MEN_17072022_gardens_018JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Walkden Gardens\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Walkden Gardens(Image: Vincent Cole &#8211; Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the highlights is the Japanese Garden, divided into three areas and separated by bamboo screens and archways. It includes a dry landscape garden with rocks and gravel representing islands and a lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Fuchsia Garden has neat clipped box hedging, while the Dovecote garden includes the romantic-looking Dovecote structure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It originally stood within the grounds of Sale Old Hall but when it was demolished in the 1920s the Dovecote remained, and it was eventually moved and rebuilt at Walkden Gardens following the widening of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/m60\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">M60<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the garden\u2019s unique features is the Theatre Lawn, which can accommodate up to 500 people with performances held there over the summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_VCP_MEN_17072022_gardens_001JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Walkden Gardens\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Walkden Gardens(Image: Vincent Cole &#8211; Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A must-see is the 70ft-long wisteria arch, which comes into bloom in late spring and early summer, creating an impressive covered walkway that allows you to be immersed in nature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Walkden Gardens is a beautiful spot, but it\u2019s flown under the radar even for those who live nearby. One reviewer, paulgray, wrote on Tripadvisor: \u201cIt really is a secret garden. I have lived in Sale for the most of my life and close to the gardens for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI suppose you can become too comfortable and ignore what\u2019s close to you. I walked our 2.5 year old granddaughter around and I had my eyes opened to the nooks and crannies hidden around\u2026Definitely worth a visit if you want to while away an hour or two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another visitor wrote in a Google review: \u201cBeautiful free garden to wander around in. Very well maintained and a lovely place to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the summer the gardens are open from 9am until 7.30pm (they are locked at night so make sure you double check the opening times before you enter).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The entrance to the free car park is on Derbyshire Road, there are also bus stops on Marsland Road.
