There\u2019s \u201cno turning back\u201d for Prince Harry\u2019s relationship with Prince William<\/a> and King Charles<\/a>. Royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News<\/a> in June 2025 that, while Charles is still \u201ctender\u201d toward reconciling with his son, William has \u201cshut the door\u201d on Harry, and wants their father to follow suit. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no turning back,\u201d Fordwich said. \u201cKing Charles<\/a> remains tender towards his son but can\u2019t risk communication. Prince William<\/a> now has absolutely no interest in mending fences. Those close to the king say he [shouldn\u2019t] make peace with Harry in a way that would burden Prince William\u2019s future reign. The animosity is so deep that William has shut the door on Harry. Charles is not willing to go against his heir\u2019s wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fordwich explained that the real reason William and Charles<\/a> don\u2019t plan on ever reconciling with Harry is due to their lack of trust in the former Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle. \u201cEverything comes down to trust and the lack of it,\u201d Fordwich said. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith also echoed the same sentiment to People<\/a> after Harry\u2019s BBC interview in which Harry claimed that his father could die before they ever speak again. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe underlying issue is trust,\u201d Bedell said. \u201cThe king and William<\/a> don\u2019t trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation.\u201d <\/p>\n

As for Harry\u2019s relationship with William<\/a>, another source told Fox News that they don\u2019t expect the brothers to see each other again unless Charles dies. \u201cThe funeral of Charles would be the first time that courtiers would imagine [them reuniting],\u201d the source said. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine William would invite Harry to his coronation.\u201d <\/p>\n

Harry hinted that only his father\u2019s funeral could bring him and William back together in his BBC interview, in which he told the outlet the \u201conly time I come back to the U.K. is, sadly, for funerals or court cases.\u201d <\/p>\n

Royal author Valentine Low also confirmed to People that Charles\u2019 inner circle at Buckingham Palace are also advising him not to speak to Harry. \u201cThere is not a good angel in [the king\u2019s] ear to say, \u2018Be a good dad and make the first move,\u2019\u201d Low said. While William has \u201cno interest\u201d in reconciling with Harry for his own reasons, sources also told the magazine that Charles\u2019 issues with Harry stem from his comments about Charles\u2019 wife, Queen Camilla, in his book, Spare, in which he called his stepmother a \u201cvillain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Harry\u2019s criticisms of Queen Camilla [in his memoir, Spare], as well as his broader attacks on the family and institution, which have seriously crossed a line for the king and those closest to him,\u201d Fordwich told Fox News.<\/p>\n

Fordwich continued, \u201cThe king is now so puzzled by Harry\u2019s constant revelations. It\u2019s now beyond sensitive to discuss, so he avoids all interaction regarding the subject. He is so kind but overwhelmed and has quite enough on his plate to deal with, without all this from his son.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another reason for Charles\u2019 rift with Harry has to deal with their court case over Harry\u2019s security detail, which he lost after he and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the British royal family and moved to the United States. <\/p>\n

\u201cHarry\u2019s ill-timed recent interview on the BBC highlighted the lack of trust between them publicly,\u201d royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News. \u201cHe seemed to believe his father could and should solve the issue of security, which he insists he and his family should have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fitzwilliams continued, \u201cThe rift, sadly, seems likely to remain toxic as there is no mutual trust between them. Hopefully, it will not worsen as the Sussexes could give further interviews or possibly write more about the feud, something that is invariably remunerative for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Low explained that Harry\u2019s comment about not knowing \u201chow much longer\u201d his father has to live wasn\u2019t \u201cmeant to be an attack,\u201d it still created a deeper wedge in his relationship with Charles. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t meant to be an attack, but it would be seen as one,\u201d Low said. \u201cIt makes Charles reaching out even harder.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There\u2019s \u201cno turning back\u201d for Prince Harry\u2019s relationship with Prince William and King Charles.
