While Cain Dingle (played by Jeff Hordley) faced fierce police questioning over his son Nate’s (Jurell Carter) death, fans predicted a dark storyline ahead for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

The teenager who is facing a gruelling health battle opened up about her desire to become a mother, which wasn’t received well by her grandmother, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). In a recent episode, Sarah learnt that she was diagnosed with the early stages of cervical cancer, a terrifying blow for the youngster who also has a rare inherited genetic condition called Fanconi anaemia. However, one fan took to social media with a theory about the character’s future and anticipated: “Sarah’s story will be the same as Sinead’s in Corrie. She will get pregnant and be told she needs to start chemo, she will refuse an abortion, have her baby and die!”

In the consultant’s room, the doctor explained the diagnosis and offered Sarah a glimmer of hope and revealed that it’s still possible for her to fulfil her life’s dream of carrying a child.

Despite trying to put on a brave face, she opened up to her ex-lover and friend, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), who was on shift as a trainee doctor.

Later in the week, the 19-year-old explained to Jacob just how much she wanted a baby, and after Sarah noticed how hesitant he was about fathering her desired baby, she then looked into IVF, and Charity confronted her after discovering the leaflet.

Her grandmother said: “Surely you can see how crazy this is, you’re 20 tomorrow, you’re barely an adult. Look, I know this is hard for you to accept, but some doors just need to close.”

Although it’s yet to be seen if Sarah will go ahead with IVF, Coronation Street fans will recall Sinead O’Connor’s (Katie McGlynn) tragic demise after she died in 2019 after a battle with cervical cancer.

At the time of her diagnosis, she was asked to choose between terminating her pregnancy or delaying her chemotherapy treatment, and eventually chose the latter.

However, at six months, her pregnancy was induced, and she gave birth to her son, Bertie, and celebrated going into remission.

Sadly, this was short-lived as the cancer returned rapidly, and Sinead became terminally ill. During the harrowing scene, she died with her husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and Bertie by her side.

Emmerdale returned to ITV with the latest from the beloved Yorkshire Dales.
