{"id":162500,"date":"2025-06-06T08:42:31","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T08:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/162500\/"},"modified":"2025-06-06T08:42:31","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T08:42:31","slug":"i-tried-the-seaside-italian-restaurant-with-a-genuine-summer-holiday-feel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/162500\/","title":{"rendered":"I tried the seaside Italian restaurant with a genuine summer holiday feel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It serves a range of Italian favourites and there are new dishes on the menu<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Michelangelo1.jpg\" alt=\"Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront(Image: Bristol Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">OK, the view of the brown and distant sea isn\u2019t quite up there with the cobalt blue waters of the Amalfi coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Still, with a cold glass of Aperol spritz in your hand and a menu that includes all the Italian classics, you soon forget you\u2019re looking out across to the beach at Weston-super-Mare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And, yes, on a sunny day, it really does feel like being on holiday even if there\u2019s a faint whiff of donkey dung and chips in the salty air.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Il Michelangelo has long enjoyed a reputation as one of Weston-super-Mare\u2019s more upmarket restaurants, a place where people dress up a bit rather than simply turn up in swim shorts and sliders carrying an inflatable rubber ring.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Michelangelo2.jpg\" alt=\"The stylish interior of Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The stylish interior of Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront(Image: Bristol Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Beyond the outdoor terrace, the restaurant is spacious, with a twinkling spotlit ceiling, blue LED strip lights, white linen tablecloths and an open kitchen at the far end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Walls are decorated with huge Michelangelo murals and smartly dressed waiting staff patrol tables with eagle eyes, never missing a trick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On the evening I was there, the place was packed with families and large groups, many of them celebrating birthdays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There were huge helium balloons attached to backs of chairs for a wide range of ages &#8211; 18, 65 and 80 among them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Over the years, I\u2019ve stopped off at Il Michelangelo for pizzas, pasta dishes and fish specials from the \u2018catch of the day\u2019 menu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Michelangelo6.jpg\" alt=\"The 'perfectly cooked' sirloin steak at Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The &#8216;perfectly cooked&#8217; sirloin steak at Il Michelangelo restaurant on Weston-super-Mare seafront(Image: Bristol Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This time, it\u2019s for the 8oz \u2018bistecca\u2019 sirloin steak (\u00a325) smoky from the chargrill and perfectly cooked, pink and juicy within.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s served with good chips &#8211; hot, crisp and salty &#8211; and, for an extra, \u00a33 peppercorn sauce with a proper tingle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Before that, I tried the new starter &#8211; burrata invernale (\u00a313) comprising a cool and creamy burrata with slices of Parma ham, wedges of deep-flavoured heritage tomatoes, basil pesto and rye and almond \u2018crumble\u2019 (essentially a scattering of toasted crumbs).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Michelangelo5.jpg\" alt=\"The Burrata and Parma ham starter\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Burrata and Parma ham starter(Image: Bristol Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Other new dishes on the menu bookmarked for next time include the Zozza pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, red onion, scamorza, Tuscan sausage and oregano) and the starter of slow-cooked pork ribs marinated in red wine, barbecue sauce, chillies and fennel seeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">I finish with torta della nona (\u00a37.95) &#8211; a Tuscan tart with crisp pastry, zesty lemon custard filling, almonds and pine nuts.
