The initiative encourages select local governments to spearhead efforts \u201cin nurturing data-related market entities and expanding the data market\u201d, according to the state broadcaster CCTV.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The zones also intend to \u201cunlock the potential of integrating the real economy with the digital economy\u201d, the CCTV report said.<\/p>\n<p>The move came as China ramps up efforts to tap into the digital economy\u2019s growth potential and gain an edge in its <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/knowledge\/topics\/us-china-tech-war-rivalry\/news?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">intensifying tech rivalry<\/a> with the United States, especially in the rapidly evolving AI sector.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">According to CCTV, China had already \u201cestablished a comprehensive data industry chain\u201d, home to over 190,000 data-related enterprises.
