US President Donald TrumpCredit: Reuters 3<\/p>\n Kemi Badenoch delivering a speech at the Royal United Services Institute in Westminster, LondonCredit: EPA 3<\/p>\n Migrants sit on a dinghy as they prepare to sail into the English Channel on May 31, 2025 in Gravelines, FranceCredit: Getty<\/p>\n It comes days after the US President signed an executive order banning citizens from 12 countries from entering America \u2014 in the name of national security.<\/p>\n Asked by The Sun if she would ever consider following suit, Ms Badenoch said: \u201cParliament needs to be able to decide who comes into the country, for how long, and who needs to leave \u2014 and that does include travel bans.<\/p>\n \u201cOn a country-specific basis it\u2019s much tougher, it\u2019s often more vague. <\/p>\n “But I think there are scenarios where that is viable.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean that I agree with what Donald Trump<\/a> has done\u2026 I haven\u2019t actually seen the list of countries that he\u2019s banned people from. <\/p>\n “I\u2019m much more focused on what\u2019s happening here.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Trump\u2019s new executive order blocks entry to nationals from 12 countries \u2014 including Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan \u2014 citing the threat of foreign terrorism<\/a>. <\/p>\n The crackdown revives his first-term \u201cMuslim ban\u201d and forms part of his hardline immigration pledge.<\/p>\n Back in London, the Tory leader delivered a fiery speech declaring the UK had \u201clost control\u201d of its asylum system and said she would “likely” pull Britain out of the European Convention on Human Rights<\/a> to fix it.<\/p>\n She warned: \u201cWe cannot become the destination for everyone looking for a new home or a better life. Nor can we be the world\u2019s softest touch.<\/p>\n \u201cIn some years our approval rate was above 80 per cent. Last year, Japan\u2019s was 2 per cent. <\/p>\n “Britain is being mugged.\u201d<\/p>\n She said human rights laws had been \u201cstretched and distorted\u201d by activist lawyers and were now being used to block deportations of dangerous criminals.<\/p>\n The Tory chief announced a commission, led by Shadow Attorney General Lord Wolfson, to draw up plans for how the UK could leave the ECHR \u2014 with a final decision due by the autumn Tory Party conference.<\/p>\n Ms Badenoch said: \u201cI have always said that if we need to leave the Convention, we should. <\/p>\n “And having now considered the question closely, I do believe that we will likely need to leave \u2014 because I am yet to see a clear and coherent way to fix this within our current legal structures.\u201d<\/p>\n She also confirmed the Tories are working on a new third-country deportation scheme to replace the scrapped Rwanda plan.<\/p>\n Her intervention comes amid growing anger over blocked deportations – with Nigel Farage<\/a>‘s Reform UK already pledging to quit the ECHR altogether.<\/p>\n Calls to overhaul the ECHR are also gaining traction across Europe<\/a> – with the treaty\u2019s own chief yesterday saying there should be \u201cno taboo\u201d on rewriting the rules.<\/p>\n Council of Europe boss Alain Berset told The Times the 75-year-old convention must \u201cadapt\u201d to tackle the scale of modern migration.<\/p>\n He urged governments – including Britain – to open political talks, saying: “We need discussion about the rules that we want to have, and there is no taboo.\u201d<\/p>\n It comes after leaders in Italy, Denmark and seven other nations have demanded more power to deport criminals and block irregular migration.<\/p>\n![\"Kemi](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2025-badenoch-delivered-speech-launch-1000897063.jpg\")
