Celebrities who narrate <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/tv\/jeremy-vine-set-team-up-35149045\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"their best-selling novelsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">their best-selling novels<\/a> have been told not to mimic foreign accents for any of their characters because it might cause offence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">TV and radio presenter Jeremy Vine admits he got a shock when he <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/showbiz\/jeremy-clarkson-jeremy-vine-spat-35025769\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"agreed to record the audiobookLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed to record the audiobook<\/a> for his latest mystery novel Murder On Line One. He discovered that it\u2019s a no-no to try and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/showbiz\/bbc-radio-2-chaos-jeremy-34808623\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"impersonate almost anyonLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">impersonate almost anyon<\/a>e outside the British Isles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Vine said: \u201cI agreed to do the audiobook but I didn\u2019t think it through. Will I sound like Huw Edwards or something?\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cEnglish regional is absolutely fine. Nobody\u2019s going to be offended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cFrench is fine. German is tricky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere are so many blooming issues but about half the world\u2019s accents you can\u2019t do now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Channel 5 and Radio Two star joked that he did come unstuck with one of the characters in his book.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_619c7vIp38L_AC_SL1000_.jpg\" alt=\"Amazon's Echo Dot (Newest gen) has been discounted by 27% in the sale\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>It will change the way audio books are recorded(Image: Amazon )<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He told a literary festival: \u201cThe one thing I have learned doing the audiobook is never have a character who\u2019s born in Glasgow, grew up in Brighton and then moves to be adopted by a vicar in Devon &#8211; because that accent is impossible and you\u2019ll sound Sean Connery-esque.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The ex Strictly contestant also admitted that he never realised how long it takes to record an audio edition of a book.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He added: \u201cYou\u2019ve got to do something like 30 hours or something. It takes quite a lot of time to read it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The news comes as Jeremy Vine is set to front a new quiz show.
