Arsenal have stepped up their interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gunners<\/a> have opened talks with Leipzig<\/a> after choosing to prioritise the Slovenian ahead of in-demand Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time the north Londoners have made their interest in Sesko<\/a> known, having made tentative enquiries in January over a move that failed to materialise.<\/p>\n

However, the German side have previously been said to be\u00a0looking for over \u00a390million<\/a> for their star man.<\/p>\n

But with a striker a top priority position for Mikel Arteta in this summer transfer window, it isn’t hard to see why he would be keen to splash the cash on the 22-year-old.<\/p>\n

Sesko has scored an impressive 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig since he joined in July 2023.<\/p>\n

He scored 21 goals for his current side in all competitions in the 2024\/25, 13 of which came in the Bundesliga as the Red Bulls finished a disappointing seventh.<\/p>\n

Despite their preference for Sesko, Arsenal could still make a move for Gyokeres if they are unable to agree a deal with the German side.<\/p>\n

But news of the Gunners making Sesko a top priority will certainly please Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils are keen on signing Gyokeres<\/a>, who previously starred under their current boss Ruben Amorim<\/a> when he was in charge of Sporting Lisbon.<\/p>\n

Since signing from Coventry City in July 2023,\u00a0the Swedish marksman has scored a staggering 97 goals and assisted another 28 in 102 games in Portugal.<\/p>\n

Over half of his contributions have come this season, with his 52 goals and 15 assists including seven hat-tricks.<\/p>\n

His goalscoring exploits have seen him become one of the hottest properties in Europe, while he is available for a cut price after honouring his verbal agreement to stay at Sporting for the 2024\/25 campaign.<\/p>\n

Sporting want around \u00a360million (\u20ac70m) for Gyokeres – a \u00a325m reduction from his \u00a385m release clause.<\/p>\n

And while Arsenal were previously believed to be frontrunners in the race to land the 27-year-old, it is now understood he is also open to a move to Old Trafford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is despite United recording their worst-ever Premier League finish of 15th this term, as well as missing out on Champions League qualification after defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Though the Red Devils are yet to open talks with Sporting over a move, they could face competition from Chelsea, who are believed to be considering bolstering their attack.<\/p>\n

However, they may no longer have to do battle with Arsenal, whose focus now appears to be on Sesko.<\/p>\n

The Slovenia star has previously been compared to Manchester City<\/a> superstar Erling Haaland<\/a>, having effectively been bought to replace him at first senior club Red Bull Salzburg.<\/p>\n

Also standing at 6ft 4in, the Slovenia star also boasts impressive physicality, as well as blistering pace and technical ability.<\/p>\n

He has already proven his goalscoring ability in both Austria and Germany, netting 29 times in 79 appearances for Salzburg, before notching 18 in his first season in Germany with Leipzig.<\/p>\n
