While a heartbreaking result for former staff, experts state the problem lies with a lack of employee protection through legislation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stlawyers.ca\/team\/jon-pinkus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jon Pinkus<\/a>, an<a href=\"https:\/\/stlawyers.ca\/labour-employment-law-employees\/ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Ontario employment lawyer<\/a> and Partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/player\/play\/video\/9.6775191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBC Toronto<\/a> to discuss what\u2019s next for former Hudson\u2019s Bay staff and if they have any options.<\/p>\n<p>Interview Notes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rights for former employees: <\/strong>Pinkus noted that this situation is very similar to the <a href=\"https:\/\/stlawyers.ca\/blog-news\/sears-canada-severance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closure of Sears Canada<\/a> years ago. \u201cIt gives me deja vu,\u201d Pinkus commented. \u201cYou\u2019ve got a huge amount of people who have lost their jobs with a huge organization that you would assume can pay employees.
