{"id":163927,"date":"2025-06-06T21:13:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T21:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/163927\/"},"modified":"2025-06-06T21:13:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T21:13:10","slug":"migrants-responsible-for-increase-in-antisemitism-says-merz-dw-06-06-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/163927\/","title":{"rendered":"Migrants responsible for increase in antisemitism, says Merz \u2013 DW \u2013 06\/06\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>06\/06\/2025June 6, 2025Germany faces extended recession if US trade war worsens, Bundesbank warns<\/p>\n<p>Germany could face two more years of recession if a trade war with the United States escalates, the central bank of Germany said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>If US President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariffs were to be implemented in full from July,\u00a0and the <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/european-union-eu\/t-17440066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a> were to hit back with similar measures, then German output would decline 0.5%\u00a0this year and 0.2%\u00a0in 2026, the <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/bundesbank\/t-17437697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bundesbank<\/a> predicted on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>This would be down\u00a0to a &#8220;marked decline in exports and significant uncertainty weighing on investment,&#8221; the bank, which\u00a0shares\u00a0responsibility with the European Central Bank for the euro,\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>There would be a return to growth in 2027, with a rebound of 1%, the bank\u00a0forecast.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, in an interview with Fox News in the United States, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he was keen to &#8220;find ways&#8221; to bring the tariffs &#8220;down&#8221; and that it is mutually beneficial for both the US and Germany to see them reduced.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These tariffs are, in our view, something which\u00a0is threatening our\u00a0economy. Our conviction\u00a0is that free trade, open markets, is the best thing for the mutual wealth of our countries, and for\u00a0our continents, so this is an issue which has to be negotiated between the American government and the <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/european-commission\/t-17455066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Commission<\/a>. We are a part of Europe so we are in that\u00a0discussion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of April, Trump threatened to hit the EU with a 20% tariff over its hefty surplus in goods traded with the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump subsequently\u00a0postponed imposing\u00a0the higher\u00a0rate\u00a0until July as the two sides sought to find some common ground.<\/p>\n<p>More recently the US president\u00a0threatened the EU with a 50%\u00a0tariff rate as talks stalled.<\/p>\n<p>The bloc still faces a &#8220;baseline&#8221; 10%\u00a0levy on all its exports to the United States, as well as higher tariffs on specific sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the end of April, the German government cut its economic\u00a0growth\u00a0forecast to zero citing the impact of Trump&#8217;s trade policies.<\/p>\n<p>The Bundesbank \u2014 jointly with the ECB \u2014 issues euro notes. It\u00a0acts as a clearing house and bank supervisor, managing currency reserves in Germany.
