But that\u2019s exactly what happened this week when Sir Starmer <\/a>announced that because of Russia\u2019s expansionist tendencies, he was going to totally overhaul our Armed Forces<\/a> so we\u2019d be ready to fight, and fight hard by, er, some point in the future.<\/p>\n He would build 12 new nuclear subs, and a wave of new fighter-bombers that could rain atomic death on our enemies.<\/p>\n And in addition, our fighting men and women, and all those who are neither, would be trained to become ten times more effective and lethal.<\/p>\n According to Starmer, we\u2019d go from a country that can\u2019t even stop a rubber dinghy<\/a> reaching the shores of Kent to a country that would shake fear into the entire Russian <\/a>naval machine.<\/p>\n It all sounds a bit preposterous, frankly, because first of all, where\u2019s the money \u00adcoming from?<\/p>\n He\u2019s already spent what little he had on train drivers, junior doctors and solar parks.<\/p>\n So how can he suddenly \u00adafford 12 new submarines and a murder of fighter jets<\/a> so complex they haven\u2019t even been invented yet.<\/p>\n And who\u2019s he going to get to operate all this new kit, and run around in the muddy trenches, shooting at Ivan?<\/p>\n Back in the Thirties, everyone in the country knew their duty. As we have seen in the Ukraine war,<\/a> an entire squadron of bombers can now be destroyed by someone with a lorry and a few drones<\/a>, made from stuff you can buy for a tenner at Dixons.<\/p>\n But by far the biggest problem we have is Keir Starmer <\/a>himself, because he is very possibly the least war-like leader the world has ever seen.<\/p>\n He is a stick of celery in a crap suit.<\/p>\n Putin <\/a>ran the KGB<\/a>. So at one point he will definitely have used his thumbs to push a man\u2019s eyes into his brain.<\/p>\n Starmer hasn\u2019t done that. But he isn\u2019t tough. He\u2019s as frightening as Will from The Inbetweeners.<\/a><\/p>\n You\u2019d only have to snap his spectacles and he\u2019d give in \u00adimmediately.<\/p>\n And he\u2019s in the hot seat for four more years. That scares me more than Putin does.<\/p>\n RIGHT OFF THE MARK<\/p>\n THE BBC told us this week that because Geert Wilders, the far-right leader of a party in the Netherlands<\/a>, had left the ruling coalition, the government was in disarray.<\/a><\/p>\n I\u2019m always confused by the Beeb\u2019s idea of \u201cfar right\u201d because I\u2019ve looked into the man and he\u2019s a long way from Hitler.<\/p>\n He just wants a firm stance on immigration <\/a>and an end to what he calls the \u201cMuslimification\u201d of his country.<\/p>\n In short, he\u2019s about as far to the right as Starmer is to the left. Only a quarter regularly play with another child.<\/p>\n This is a worry because a child that\u2019s spent its formative years shooting aliens in the face and watching mindless American cartoons is going to have no understanding of how to behave in society.<\/p>\n They\u2019re going to meet people they don\u2019t like, and hear things they find offensive, and they\u2019re going to fall over occasionally and graze their knees. And they will have no idea how to cope.<\/p>\n So they\u2019ll become intolerant and bitter and angry, lashing out at every little thing.<\/p>\n And pretty soon, we\u2019ll end up, er\u2026 pretty much where we are now.<\/p>\n With an entire generation of young adults who learned everything they know from sitting in their bedrooms. And think they can be excused from any responsibility by simply dreaming up an acronym for whatever they think is wrong with them.<\/p>\n Greed for speed<\/p>\n
