{"id":164748,"date":"2025-06-07T10:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-07T10:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/164748\/"},"modified":"2025-06-07T10:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-07T10:48:12","slug":"greater-manchester-weather-forecast-as-met-office-issues-thunderstorm-warning-for-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/164748\/","title":{"rendered":"Greater Manchester weather forecast as Met Office issues thunderstorm warning for UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A yellow warning for thunderstorms is in force for parts of the UK<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Met-Office-weather-warning-for-thunderstorms-in-the-south-of-England-and-Midlands-for-June-7-2025..jpeg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>(Image: Met Office)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Greater Manchester is set to be battered by heavy rain today (Saturday) according to the latest forecasts from the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/the-met-office\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Met Office<\/a> &#8211; although it\u2019s set to escape the yellow thunderstorm warning which is in force for the south of the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Coming into effect from 9am, the yellow warning covers parts of central and southern England and Wales. It\u2019s in place until 9pm on June 7 and currently no further warnings have been issued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The alert warns of \u201cheavy showers and thunderstorms\u201d which \u201cmay lead to some disruption to transports and infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">People are urged to take care when driving, while some damage to buildings is possible from lightning strikes. Train services could be delayed due to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-weather\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">weather<\/a> conditions and short term loss of power is \u201clikely\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_280224weather1.jpg\" alt=\"Heavy rain is forecast for Greater Manchester for June 7, 2025 \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Heavy rain is forecast for Greater Manchester for June 7, 2025 (Image: Sean Hansford | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: \u201cFrequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday, before they fade from the west during the mid-to-late afternoon. \u201cIt\u2019s possible that 10-15mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, while some places could see 30-40mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms. Frequent lightning, hail, and strong, gusty winds are also possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cA yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued and covers parts of central and southern England and Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;While brisk winds ensure that most places in the warning area will be hit by showers, not all places will see thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;In this case it\u2019s difficult to predict where exactly thunderstorms will hit because they are small and fast changing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOne analogy we use to picture the complexity of this forecasting challenge is comparing it to boiling a pan of water and having to guess exactly where and when the bubbles will appear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We know some will, but only in certain places, and that is why thunderstorms are so hard to predict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In Greater Manchester heavy rain is forecast until 1pm on Saturday, replaced by heavy showers across the afternoon. It\u2019s expected to ease into the evening although theres still a strong chance of showers later on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Highs of 13C are forecast, although it will feel cooler at 11C. Light showers are forecast on Sunday with temperatures reaching 15C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Dry conditions will resume once again on Monday with highs of 16C.
