could have to be made.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  From this month, recycling centres are no longer open on Wednesdays and, at a recent\u00a0meeting of the Conservative-controlled cabinet, senior councillors were asked about further closures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Liberal Democrat county councillor Rob Colwell\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Liberal Democrat county councillor Rob Colwell (Image: Rob Colwell)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Liberal Democrat county councillor Rob Colwell asked James Bensly, cabinet member for highways, environment and waste, if he could &#8220;provide reassurance that further closures will not occur&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"County councillor James Bensly\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>County councillor James Bensly (Image: Norfolk Conservatives)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Responding, Mr Bensly did not rule out the possibility of further recycling centre closures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: &#8220;The county council&#8217;s recycling centre service is subject to ongoing refinements and improvements.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Significant changes to the service, such as any further closures, would be subject to consultation before decisions are made.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/25195613.norfolk-tips-council-saves-200k-wednesday-closures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The controversial closure of Norfolk&#8217;s recycling centres on Wednesdays will save County Hall more than \u00a3200,000<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Wednesday openings at the council&#8217;s 13 full-time council-run recycling centres finished at the end of May.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Six other centres already operated on a part-time basis and only open from Friday to Mondays.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In another move to save cash, the council last year<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/24066401.norfolk-recycling-centre-closure-plans-blasted-critics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0introduced\u00a0a booking system to take waste to tips<\/a>\u00a0and changed charges for tradespeople.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In December 2023, the council&#8217;s Mayton Wood Recycling Centre, near Coltishall, was closed, in order to save \u00a370,000.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The decision,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/23270008.anger-plans-close-mayton-wood-recycling-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which sparked anger<\/a>, came despite more\u00a0than 90pc of the 900 people who took part in the authority&#8217;s consultation over the closure saying the site should stay open.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The county council said usage had dropped off after the opening of the\u00a0Norwich North recycling centre, off the Northern Distributor Road.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The council has plans for new recycling centres at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/25070536.work-wymondham-recycling-centre-start-later-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wymondham<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/24928549.norfolk-council-taken-high-court-1-75m-tip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheringham<\/a>, Long Stratton and North Walsham.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Norfolk County Council needs to make \u00a341.5m of further savings next year to balance the books and leaders&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":164863,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3843],"tags":[728,70,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-164862","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-environment","8":"tag-environment","9":"tag-science","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114641924428814874","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/164862","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=164862"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/164862\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/164863"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=164862"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=164862"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=164862"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
