Coco Gauff<\/a> made a heartwarming gesture just minutes after beating Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to win the French Open<\/a>. The young American battled back from a set down to secure a thrilling 6-7 6-2 6-4 victory<\/a>. It marked her first triumph at Roland Garros and her second Grand Slam title overall, having previously won the US Open in 2023.<\/p>\n

Gauff was in floods of tears before collecting the trophy and struggled to control her emotions during her victory speech. She also cried while sharing a warm embrace with her family in the stands. Once the initial euphoria had died down, the 21-year-old strolled around the court parading her newest piece of silverware.<\/p>\n

At one point, she allowed the ball kids to take turns lifting the trophy in a heartwarming display of kindness. They were visibly overjoyed with smiles all round as they each got the opportunity to hoist the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen above their heads.<\/p>\n

Gauff was fully deserving of her victory over Sabalenka, who was made to pay for a series of unforced errors. The latter also struggled to keep a lid on her frustration at times, which was in stark contrast to the calm demeanour of her opponent.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the crowd in her victory speech, Gauff said: “I want to thank my team. You are always pushing me. I know sometimes I’m not easy to work with, but thank you for everything you do. I appreciate you guys.<\/p>\n

“I also want to thank my parents. From washing my clothes to keeping me grounded, you always believe in me. You guys are the reason I do this and inspire me more than anything.<\/p>\n

“I want to thank the crowd too. You really helped me today, you were cheering so hard and I don’t know what I do to deserve so much love from the French crowd but… merci beaucoup.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t think I could do it but I’m going to quote Tyler, The Creator, who said: ‘If I ever told you i had a doubt inside me, I must be lying’. I’ll leave you with that.”<\/p>\n

“I was going through a lot of things when I lost this final three years ago, so it means a lot to be back and here and to win.”<\/p>\n
