{"id":166610,"date":"2025-06-08T03:30:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-08T03:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/166610\/"},"modified":"2025-06-08T03:30:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-08T03:30:18","slug":"watch-bull-spotted-on-the-loose-in-birmingham-arrives-safely-at-an-animal-sanctuary-and-feeds-on-hay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/166610\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: Bull spotted on the loose in Birmingham arrives safely at an animal sanctuary and feeds on hay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shock footage which captured a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/2025\/06\/06\/bull-seen-running-loose-in-birmingham-now-in-care-of-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bull on the loose in Birmingham<\/a> yesterday caught the nation\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p>The black Dexter bull, thought to be around two years old, was seen roaming the streets near Small Heath railway station at around 9.20am &#8211; dangerously darting around traffic.<\/p>\n<p>It has been claimed that the animal escaped from an abattoir.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westmidlands.police.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Midlands Police<\/a> and Birmingham City Council said they worked together to bring the animal to safety after it was stopped by a truck as it ran towards the roundabout on Golden Hillock Road.<\/p>\n<p>Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hillside.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hillside Animal Sanctuary<\/a> in Norfolk has told how it has rehomed the bull &#8211; saving the animal from being shot &#8211; and named him Liam.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/c137c1ff-84bc-4b56-93e7-43aaefa2ae00.jpg\"   alt=\"Bull that was on the loose in Birmingham is rescued by Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Bull that was on the loose in Birmingham is rescued by Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk<\/p>\n<p>Wendy Valentine, founder of the sanctuary told the Express &amp; Star: \u201cWe became aware of his desperate break for freedom when we received multiple calls from concerned supporters asking if we could help.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe sprang into action and negotiated with the Birmingham Police assuring them that we could give him a secure home here at Hillside.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith nobody coming forward to claim him, they agreed that we could collect him and bring him to our Sanctuary in Norfolk where he will live out his natural life with our 750 other rescued cows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe immediately set off to Birmingham and he arrived back with us by 2.45am Saturday morning (7th June)..\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Patron, Martin Shaw, a proud Brummie himself, is delighted that Liam, as we have named him, has been saved rather than being shot as so often happens in these situations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council staff efforts to keep the animal and the public safe won praise from councillor Majid Mahmood, Birmingham\u2019s cabinet member for environment and transport, who wrote beside a picture of the bull on X: \u201cThis magnificent animal seemed to be enjoying an unexpected break, but our amazing street cleansing staff weren\u2019t phased at all, helping moving it into a safe place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell done to our animal welfare staff &amp; park rangers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the bull amid city traffic went viral on social media on Friday, prompting jokes it may be heading towards Birmingham\u2019s Bull Ring shopping area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Shock footage which captured a bull on the loose in Birmingham yesterday caught the nation\u2019s attention.
