At a screening of the 1993 special \u201cLucy & Desi Home Movies\u201d<\/a> on the Paramount Studios lot on June 5, Lucie Arnaz got candid about her feelings on Aaron Sorkin<\/a>\u2019s 2021 film<\/a> \u201cBeing the Ricardos<\/a>.\u201d The movie, which followed Arnaz\u2019s parents Lucille Ball<\/a> and Desi Arnaz during the production of the seminal \u201850s series \u201cI Love Lucy,\u201d garnered a mixed critical response<\/a> \u2014 though Nicole Kidman earned praise<\/a> and an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Ball. Lucie Arnaz served as an executive producer on the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was involved, and I tried to work on it and correct the incorrect parts, especially her relationship with the writers,\u201d Arnaz said in a video from the June 5 event.<\/a> \u201cTotally wrong, right? She adored those people. They got along so well, none of that backstabbing, crazy, insulting stuff. That was such a crock of poop. It was so wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arnaz also said that the tension depicted between Vivian Vance and William Frawley \u2014 known best as their \u201cLucy\u201d characters Ethel and Fred \u2014 was \u201coverly done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, you know, you can\u2019t talk to Aaron. He\u2019s Aaron Sorkin,\u201d she explained, saying he would listen in what she referred to as \u201cmeaningful consultation\u2026 But then he would say, \u2018Well, what do you know? You were 15 months old.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Arnaz added that she was concerned about putting her name on something that future generations may look back on and consider to be the truth. The panel discussion also featured actor Keith Thibodeaux, who portrayed the Ricardos\u2019 son Little Ricky on \u201cI Love Lucy,\u201d who also had issues with the Sorkin film.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s well done and all that, I just didn\u2019t get it,\u201d Thibodeaux said.<\/p>\n

Arnaz did concede that the fill was \u201cbeautifully made,\u201d<\/a> and has previously praised Kidman\u2019s performance as her mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cNicole did a spectacular job,\u201d she told Paul Springs Life in 2021<\/a>. \u201cBoy, what she did was astounding. She\u2019s got such poise and class.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arnaz appears to have had evolving feelings on the movie over the years. After seeing the film initially in 2021, she called it \u201cfreakin\u2019 amazing.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Sorkin told IndieWire in 2021<\/a> that he built \u201cBeing the Ricardos\u201d \u00a0around Ball seeing the series as a salve for her marriage to Desi Arnaz.<\/p>\n

\u201cDesi wasn\u2019t around that much, he was touring with his orchestra,\u201d Sorkin said. \u201cLucy had to be in L.A., she wanted her marriage to work, she wanted a family. She wanted Desi to play her husband, which was not a crazy idea. She would go out and meet Desi and the orchestra on weekends; he\u2019d call her up on stage to do bits that the writers had written and audiences loved it.
