But in a prelude to the World Test Championship, Australia captain Pat Cummins was spotted on a Twitter post by famous TV host Jeremy Clarkson, saying, \u201cHey Australia, look who I\u2019ve stolen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clarkson, former host of Top Gear and The Grand Tour has a sleeper hit reality TV farm show Clarksons Farm on OTT, currently in its 4th season. It is extremely popular among Americans and takes place on a 1,000-acre Oxfordshire farm called Diddly Squat. The show rivalled BBC\u2019s 30-year-old farm show Countryfile (like Indian Aamchi Mart\u00ednez, Aamchi mansa), and acquired a cult following since 2021. Pat Cummins, in UK for the World Test Championship, might have dropped in to feature in one of the episodes, went the speculation. <\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The OxfordMail reported, \u201cDespite being regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, having taken almost 300 Test wickets, people in the comments mistook him for Tom Cruise. Mr Clarkson is well known for disliking cricket, but the latest season of Clarkson\u2019s Farm showed him getting willow trees planted which will eventually be used to make cricket bats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>While Americans were befuddled and intrigued over who he was \u2013 Cummins, that is \u2013 and the usual \u2018introduction to cricket\u2019 jokes followed, the thread set off another predictable bantering exchange \u2013 between English and Aussie cricket fans.<\/p>\n<p>The handle, Jason Nevett took the first potshots: \u201cYou can tell he is Ozzie cricketer by the sand paper they always carry.\u201d A David Moore handle responded with, \u201cJust as the Poms carry Murray Mints.\u201d That was a reference to jelly beans and Mints that the English bowlers get saddled with for using allegedly to work the ball for reverse swing. Sandpapergate is of course well accounted for the controversy it triggered. <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"subscriber_hide\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/subscribe\/upsc-special\/?utm_source=IESITE&amp;utm_medium=Banner&amp;utm_campaign=Inarticle\" title=\"Festive offer\" data-ie-event-category=\"Event_banner\" data-ie-event-action=\"Article\" data-ie-event-label=\"Desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img class=\"lazyloading\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/article_banner.jpg\" alt=\"Festive offer\" width=\"640px\" height=\"99px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Nevett handle kept darting at responses with various version of sandpaper ripostes. The handle Kaotic entered the chat and declared, \u201cCheers mate, Don\u2019t forget to tune into us and South Africa playing for the world test championship in your backyard.\u201d England\u2019s Bazballers never seem to qualify for WTC, though it always gets hosted in UK. <\/p>\n<p>Yet another \u201cwill have sandpaper on standby for yas\u201d from Nevett, had Kaotic quipping, \u201c30 grit please\u2026Although it will do you no good as you would be spectating the final as usual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>His slightly predictable comeback next time to being called \u2018cheaters\u2019 was \u201cNo count back to this final\u201d with a picture of Australia winning the last WTC mace. <\/p>\n<p>A few Twitter users also commented that the man with Clarkson was Tom Cruise, \u201clooking younger.\u201d Sine not-so-bright Aussies asked Clarkson to keep Cummins on the farm, because he was \u201cwoke\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>English fans, dreading an Ashes peppering later in the year, requested Clarkson to push him into the bull ring and other assorted sabotage techniques, all in good humour though.
