With three Tour de France victories, a Giro<br \/>\nd\u2019Italia title, the rainbow bands of the world champion, and a string of<br \/>\nMonument wins behind him, the Slovenian seems untouchable. Part of this comes from his ability to resist fatigue late into the race.\u201cDurability has had to become a much bigger focus of how we<br \/>\ntrain,\u201d said Dan Lorang, head of performance at Red Bull \u2013 BORA \u2013 hansgrohe.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-training\/durability-is-the-most-important-marker-of-the-pogacar-era\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speaking to Velo,<\/a> Lorang explained how racing has shifted. \u201cIt\u2019s not the<br \/>\nrider who can push the most when they\u2019re fresh who wins races. It\u2019s who can<br \/>\npush the most after five hours and many thousands of kilojoules of work. That\u2019s<br \/>\ntotally changed in the past few years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe crazy big attacks are going earlier, and the whole<br \/>\npeloton is at a higher level,\u201d Lorang said. \u201cRacing is made hard, all of the<br \/>\ntime. That means the energy requirements have totally changed. We have to adapt<br \/>\nto that in everything we do for preparation \u2013 in nutrition, psychology,<br \/>\ntraining, all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a sentiment shared across the peloton. At Team Visma | Lease<br \/>\na Bike, the staff working with a super team including two time Tour winner Jonas<br \/>\nVingegaard and Matteo Jorgenson, are also shifting their mindset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing that durability is something that we have to<br \/>\nunderstand. Not just as a coaching community, but specifically within the<br \/>\nteam,\u201d said Tim Heemskerk, <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/jonas-vingegaard\" title=\"Jonas Vingegaard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonas Vingegaard<\/a>&#8216;s coach. \u201cWhen you see what Poga\u010dar does, it\u2019s obvious we<br \/>\nhave to try to understand it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tadej Pogacar enters the summer of 2025 as the undisputed best rider in professional cycling.
