While a quirky cafe in some Edwardian loos finds itself on the market&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Paco Tapas<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Address: <\/strong>3, The General, Lower Guinea St, Redcliffe, Bristol BS1 6FU<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Back at the end of May, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/former-michelin-starred-restaurant-paco-10218723\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BristolLive reported that this Lower Guinea Street restaurant would close with immediate effectLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BristolLive reported that this Lower Guinea Street restaurant would close with immediate effect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The popular venue, which described itself as being &#8220;deeply rooted in Spanish tradition and family heritage&#8221;, gained a Michelin Star <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/bristols-paco-tapas-gains-michelin-564256\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">less than a year after opening in 2017<\/a> &#8211; but <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/michelin-star-awards-sees-losers-9080579\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">lost it last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Writing on Instagram, the restaurant announced its closure. It said: &#8220;This decision has not come easily, and it marks the end of a chapter filled with incredible memories, dedicated teamwork, and the joy of sharing our passion for Spanish food and hospitality with all of you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;To all of you, thank you, Your support, love, and enthusiasm have meant the world to us. We\u2019ve been privileged to be part of your celebrations, your everyday moments, and everything in between.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;To our team past and present, thank you for your hard work, creativity, and commitment. With love and gratitude, Peter, Paco and Sue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The restaurant&#8217;s closure marks the end of the family&#8217;s time running restaurants in Bristol. They originally opened Casamia in Westbury-on-Trym in 1999 before moving the operation to The General in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Casamia closed in August 2022. At the time, chef-patron Peter Sanchez-Iglesias told <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bighospitality.co.uk\/Article\/2022\/05\/30\/Chef-Peter-Sanchez-Iglesias-to-close-his-Bristol-flagship-restaurant-Casamia\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Hospitality<\/a> that rapidly increasing costs had made the business &#8220;financially unviable&#8221; and that &#8220;losing just a few covers per service is often the difference between making a profit and making a loss&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Cloakroom<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_DB_BL_04-05-23_THE_CLOAKROOM_CAFEJPEG.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Cloakroom is now up for sale(Image: BristolLive)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Address: <\/strong>Woodland Rd, Bristol, BS8 1US<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A quirky Bristol <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/cafes\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"cafeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">cafe<\/a> which is situated in what was formerly a block of toilets, is up for sale, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/property\/quirky-bristol-cafe-former-edwardian-10189545\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BristolLive reported on May 19Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BristolLive reported on May 19<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Cloakroom on the junction of Woodland Road and Park Row, sits in a Grade II listed building in the Tyndall&#8217;s Park conservation area that used to be a block of Edwardian loos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sitting on the Redland, Kingsdown and Park Street borders, and within a short walk of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/university-of-bristol\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"University of BristolLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Bristol<\/a>, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/clifton\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"CliftonLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Clifton<\/a> Triangle and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-centre\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"City CentreLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">City Centre<\/a>, the cafe is known for serving up fresh food like cakes and sandwiches, and speciality coffee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The building itself, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hootons.co.uk\/properties\/the-cloakroom-woodland-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"which spans 651 square feet according to the property listingLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">which spans 651 square feet according to the property listing<\/a>, dates back to 1904 and is considered a rarity due to most such buildings having been demolished over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Before it was bought at auction in 2017 for \u00a3215,000 and opened as a cafe in August 2019, The Cloakroom was also used as an art studio and even a film set.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Back in 2019, BristolLive spoke to Alfred Fitzgerald, who purchased the Edwardian building and who said at the time: &#8220;I didn&#8217;t want to open a cafe in Bristol &#8211;
